You can't see DLD, and so even when things look OK from the outside, you won't know how hard people with DLD are working.
Make it easier by knowing about DLD and using strategies such as these:

Everyone gets a bit stuck on words some of the time, but for people with DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) this happens a lot more frequently.
But we at RADLD think that people with DLD have lots to say, & so we are working to amplify their voices.
#DLDday is Friday October 17th.

There are few outward signs of DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) so we need to go looking for it.
Join us on October 17th 2025 as we raise awareness of DLD and ensure that more people have the skills to go looking for DLD.

Thank you Hannah for a wonderful lecture on how people with DLD might camouflage their needs. One take home message is that we need to understand DLD better and be ready to provide support. This will help people with DLD feel safe to make their DLD seen. #DLDday @radld.bsky.social #devlangdis

OK, so DLD stands for Developmental Language DISORDER but it helps if you think of it as a difference in how the brain processes language. And whilst people with DLD can learn language, you can’t change the DLD any more than you can autism in an autistic person #DLDday #DevLangDis @radld.bsky.social

DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) is a difficulty with spoken language, and so to support learning we need to find other ways. Visuals such as images, diagrams and videos can all be used to support understanding and structure expression too. #DLDday #DevLangDis @radld.bsky.social

Reading is based in spoken language and so people with DLD often find reading challenging. Decoding and comprehension can both be problematic. Many people who are diagnosed with dyslexia also have DLD. #DLDday #DevLangDis @radld.bsky.social

Masking in people with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) had been under researched until now. @hannahhobson.bsky.social is doing great innovative work to fill that gap.

Innovative study by @hannahhobson.bsky.social using mock trial. People who knew defendant had DLD viewed him more positively, still had the same conviction rate.
Key factor was not showing remorse. Person in scenario had not understood the word 'remorse.' People need to understand DLD & its impacts

@hannahhobson.bsky.social people with DLD in the youth justice system might appear shifty, aggressive or unreliable.
Causes big trouble. #DevLangDis
radld.bsky.social
@hannahhobson.bsky.social found a correlation between the amount of camouflaging in children with DLD and mental health needs. #DevLangDis
radld.bsky.social
@hannahhobson.bsky.social people with DLD felt safer to show their needs in smaller, more supportive or specialist settings or with other neurodivergent peers
radld.bsky.social
@hannahhobson.bsky.social some young people explained their DLD to peers and had a negative reaction.
Some asked for help and got a negative reaction.
Others notice the support a young person receives negatively.
