Met several people who became IRL close friends. Found a vibrant community of writers that would have been impossible to bring into my life any other way since they are from all over the place.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

And, just to help other authors, here's more details about the scam: they said my recently-published e-book had been shortlisted for a book of the month pick by NoNameBooks.com which IS a legitimate organization - but the person who emailed me is probably not part of it.
Scam email I just received saying it's from NoName Book Club - which it isn't.

Sigh. Almost fell for an emailed scam. They weren't asking me for anything, so I didn't immediately put 2 & 2 together. Sending it to the spam folder now....

Last week ushered in Spookymonth like a full house (of Usher)…and this week, our hand is all queens. To wit: Lauren Parker makes her Story Hour debut, Rachel Unger is again among us! Join us Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. PDT! @laurenparker.bsky.social @rachelunger.bsky.social www.storyhour2020.com
Waist-up color photo of writer Lauren Parker, a fair-skinned woman with short hair dyed bright pink and tattoos on both arms. She wears a strapless smocked top (or perhaps a dress) in a pink floral, one large ring on each hand, a watch with a metal band, dangling earrings, a septum ring, large plastic-framed glasses, and bright pink lipstick. She is in what appears to be a large room with wood paneling; large speakers loom on the ceiling. She stands before a microphone, sheets of white paper in hand, and looks out to the audience with her face alert and almost smiling. Full-body color photo of writer Rachel Unger, a fair-skinned woman with brown hair in pigtails. She wears a blue-and-orange bike jersey, black bike shorts, sunglasses, cycling shoes, and a white bike helmet. This is because she is on a black-and-green Cannondale bicycle, having just completed the AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride. Palm trees, blue sky, sandy beach, and onlookers form a background. She smiles broadly, joyfully, into the camera.

Scam alert: there's an IngramSpark impersonator at ingramsparkbookpublishers dot com. Part of a wave of publishing/ghostwriting scams from Pakistan that hijack authors looking to self-publish--they often "borrow" well-known publisher names but this one also "borrows" the real IngramSpark's logo
Screenshot of IngramSpark impersonator's contact form, with chat window where scammer sales rep "Travis Clark" claims that "We are Ingram Spark's hands-on services department. You will be able to find our information here: https://www.ingramsparkbookpublishers.com/

Worked on some edits for my current novel-in-progress and increased the word count by....6. Yes, 6 words. But I cut quite a few totally unnecessary words and added a few better ones, so this is still progress, even if it doesn't look like it.

My dystopian flash appears in Writers Resist today. It was written after the election around the question plaguing me: What will it mean to be Black in Tr*ump's America? I hope you'll check it out.

Did something for my future self by submitting two stories today....plenty of other things I could have spent time on, but sometimes we need to choose the important thing over the more urgent thing.

I did this yesterday. After being in PT since April, it was definitely a challenge. About half of it was walking, so don't take the pace too seriously. This was at the Star K Ranch in Aurora, Colorado (yes, *that* Aurora) - a gorgeous place for a race. #running
A gravel path cutting through an amber-colored field of grass, with a range of mountains in the distance under a clear blue sky. The text says distance 3.16 miles and there's a Garmin badge to the right for a 5K run.

For those who miss NaNoWriMo, I suggest we claim it. The rules of #MyNoWriMo: write a 50,000 word novel entirely within the month of November. That's it. Though I do suggest we:

1. Help each other.
2. Keep it free and accessible.
3. Avoid attaching authority to it.

Let's write together again!

The official database of works eligible for the Anthropic AI settlement has been released and, as I suspected, many authors are screwed. Basically, if your books weren't officially registered with the US Copyright Office you're out of luck. 1/ secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup/results
Welcome to the Anthropic Copyright Settlement Website
Are you the legal or beneficial copyright owner of a book included in the Anthropic Copyright Settlement?
You could get a payment from the $1.5 billion Settlement.
