It can be a choice.
If you want your cycling to be sustainable, then ride a steel frame, fit internal hub gearing and dynamo lighting.
Stick with cable brakes and gearing instead of hydraulics and electronics.
Even a leather saddle will last decades.

2/ if you rely on carrots alone the small changes you do deliver will be mostly between sustainable modes

I’ve been staring, somewhat open mouthed at this map all week. One of these motorways was indeed meant to roar right past my house! An absolutely fascinating map that simultaneously makes way more sense than the London we ended up with, and shows an absolutely unthinkable parallel universe.

if they're never going to fix the fucking lifts can we just sue the council to buy us lighter bikes it'll probably be cheaper and easier to just buy all the tunnel users lighter bikes than to fix highly complex bespoke never used elsewhere super advanced alien technology (some elevators)
