How much of an impact does hearing stories of mental health recovery have on those who are struggling?

The programme coordinator for NEON - which looked at this - shares what they found & what needs to happen next.

Read it here 👉 mcpin.org/storytelling-mental-health-recovery/

We tried to look for a broad range of narratives that were diverse in terms of how they were presented - not just focusing on what you often see, which is very short, very simple, very positive narratives.

94% of teachers have had to dip into their own pockets to buy school supplies. An estimated 1 in 6 have second jobs during the school year to make ends meet.

The average Wall Street employee got a record $244,700 bonus last year.

Something has gone terribly wrong.

Good news!
St. Lucia has struck down colonial-era laws that criminalised homosexuality.
While much of the world is edging backwards on LGBTQ rights and acceptance, St. Lucia becomes the 5th Eastern Caribbean country to decriminalise same-sex relations in the last few years.
Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court strikes down St. Lucia laws criminalizing gay sex
The laws against “gross indecency” and “buggery” are unconstitutional, the court ruled.

In honor of #NationalMothWeek I will be posting #moths. We start with the amazingly beautiful Hieroglyphic Moth, Diphtera festiva, which I have only seen once.
A photo of a yellow, iridescent blue, black and shimmery gold moth sitting on my finger from above. The moth's wings are spread, the head is black. The forebody is yellow with dark blue iridescent stripes The forewings are yellow with the dark blue iridescent stripes on the front part, the rear part of the forewings are yellow with three rows of tiny iridescent blue spots. The hind wings are black with a bright golden sheen to them. A photo of the moth from the side showing the yellow and dark blue iridescent stripes and spots on the wings

UK Govt inheriting poor value assets due to bad handling of PFI contracts.

PFI is part of corporate welfare. For every £1 of private investment govt repays more than £6 + more for services.

Cheaper for govt to borrow.

Yet govt is entering new PFI deals lasting to 2052-53.

Today at #BAP2025 we heard from both lived-experience and pharmacology experts that clozapine,“Britain’s most dangerous drug” is lifesaving for people with treatment-resistance— with current thresholds for discontinuation racially unequal (some people have naturally lower but safe neutrophil levels)
Newspaper articles including the headline “Britain’s most dangerous prescription drug” Shows how some ethnicities have benign neutropaenia, which is not a risk factor itself but can lead to treatment cessation or burden of extra tests Summary that clozapine is underused and life-saving, despite known risks

Despite being banned by new Hungarian legislation, Budapest Pride will still take place on June 28.
Throughout history, laws and society have attempted to deny, erase or crush LGBTQ lives.
They have always failed.

A Pride parade protesting Hungary's LGBTQ+ crack down has been backed by over 30 foreign embassies – but not the United States.

Honored to share my newest piece, this one around the framework I created years ago for myself to navigate my suicidal thoughts.

Especially during these times, we need to have open conversations around mental health to save lives. I love you all.🌙💖🐦‍🔥🦄🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🦸🏽‍♂️✊🏽

This is so true from history books! Men sat down & pondered long and hard if women should have rights or be allowed to vote - thought it wasn’t a good idea too!

I don't know how many people understand that disabled people are looking at losing £450 a month, every month, potentially for life.

Money that pays for the help, aids, and adjustments that they need to exist in the world. There are disabled people who wouldn't survive these cuts.

I want to see non-disabled people shouting about the disability benefit cuts. If you spoke out about trans rights, abortion rights, or migrant rights in recent weeks? Good on you! If you aren’t doing the same for disabled people, ask yourself why.

The NHS recently announced it will open specialist mental health centres as an alternative to A&E.

But patients don’t always present with cases that fall neatly into “mental” or “physical” boxes, says @jamesldowns.bsky.social, and this risks reinforcing the divide
