Cooling? Huh. I guess it is a bit chilly in here, so I'd best turn that off...

Two and a half weeks and several countries later, I’m back from an adventure that stretched from the Balkans to the Caucasus.

I now have a little over a week to recover and prepare for NFC. x_x

Now in France and on the way to Paris! 🇫🇷🥖

To be fair, she is probably used to the heat! I recorded a video of her making it, and she nonchalantly reaches into the oven (that cooks the bread in a few seconds) with her bare arms and hands. 😄
February 2, 2026 at 8:22 PM
I had the bread, yes! She plucked a large sheet of it right from inside the oven and just draped it over my hand. Needless to say it was very hot, and I stood there smiling politely as it slowly burned my hand.

I remained stoic and continued to take pictures. 😄

I get what you mean! It's got fantasy dungeon vibes!

Tried taking a video in part of the monastery, but sadly my phone camera / focus just didn't play nicely with the changing light. :(

It's not great, but here's a clip to show what it was kinda like. This is when I explored one of the side rooms.

Stopped by the basalt rock formations known as the Symphony of Stones, saw a lady making some traditional lavash (flatbread), explored the Garni temple (that came with a free dog!), and finally Charent's Arch - sadly Mt Ararat was obscured by the weather. 🥲 [2/2]

Visited Khor Virap where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned, and then the 13th century Geghard monastery which is partly cut into a mountain. Felt like stepping back in time!

Had the privilege of having the place almost to myself to wander about in, which was nice! [1/2]

Ok, it's super pretty at night here in Republic Square. 😍

After a long drive and interesting border crossing, I'm here in Armenia! 🇦🇲

Hello Yerevan! 👋

On the road again! 🚗🐲

Was more trying to find the one bus I needed that looked the same as all the others haphazardly parked! The different parking lots were interconnected by a busy marketplace like this, then throw in traffic and mostly non-english signs... yup, there was aimless wandering!

Found it in the end though!

A short clip for the vibe. I call this "Clueless dragon in search of bus." 🚎🐲

(This was one of like 5 similar lots in the immediate area)

Busy few days! Went to Uplistsikhe to see Iron Age cave dwellings, visited Stalins house and railway carriage in Gori, stopped by the 11th century cathedral in Mtskheta, as well as the 6th century Jvari monastery.
January 31, 2026 at 3:25 PM
Browsed one of the local markets, selling all sorts of items - everything from antique cameras to books, to pins/medals, to even old military gear. Got myself some perfect condition Soviet space stamps!

Also if you're from the US and missing a license plate, it may have found its way here. 😄

On a side street I found this little window where you need to crouch down to see through, and there's a lady in a small basement just baking bread all day. Order some and she takes it right from the oven.

Been stood across the street and have shamelessly eaten an entire loaf. 😔

The best cultural landmark - an absolute chonker that hangs about the metro station.

I must find.

It was a bit of a surreal experience, especially since I was the only person in the entire facility! The caretaker told me I could go down the metal (rusted) steps and see the press, and then he just left me alone. x3

This was the bottom of the stairs to that room. Does have a mild horror vibe!
January 29, 2026 at 3:34 PM
Stopped by the secret basement where in 1904, young Stalin first started printing leaflets and newspapers. Was shown around by the caretaker and got to see the original press.

Could walk right up to it! Left it alone though. I didn't want to get in trouble for touching Stalins press. 😬

I'm now in Georgia. 🇬🇪

Hello Tbilisi! 👋
January 28, 2026 at 2:14 PM
The cats are everywhere! Was one on the turnstile to the ferry this morning (and yes, I did stop to give pets!). 😄
January 27, 2026 at 8:50 PM
Sadly I couldn't get the full experience, as the interior is filled with a giant metal supporting structure whilst they renovate it. A lot of the artefacts were moved out too (aside from a few 11th century mosaics).

The cistern was incredible. Like, no photo or video truly captures what it's like. Definitely one of my favourite places visited!

Managed to get there fairly early too, so there weren't too many people about. Got to appreciate it without being crowded (which I imagine it gets in peak season!).
January 27, 2026 at 7:01 PM
Wandered through the Basilica Cistern built in 532AD, then spent some time in the Grand Bazaar and then the Egyptian spice market, before heading down to the waterfront to vibe. [2/2]
January 27, 2026 at 5:48 PM
Done a lot today! Went inside Hagia Sophia (it's undergoing renovations, so had limited decent pics there), visited the 400 year old Blue Mosque which has an absolutely beautiful interior, and sat with some cats for a bit. [1/2]
