In light of the Trump/Musk circus, let me remind you of your favourite Romanian language fact:

When someone throws stupid tantrums hurting their own interests just for the sake of being an ahole, we say they hit their own testicles with an adze (carpentry tool). The Romanian word for adze is Tesla.

"That doesn’t mean they’re miracle cures for degraded ecosystems. But it does hint at something quietly radical: renewable infrastructure might also offer unexpected environmental perks—if done thoughtfully."

This is pretty damn cool.

This is a huge problem that @workrights.bsky.social have documented in the past.

Crook opens company, treats workers like 💩, shafts contractors of pay - and then when sued declares insolvency, liquidates the company, starts it again under a new name - and good luck recovering your compensation.

That's the message a director of Crussh sent to Raf just after it went into administration. Two months earlier a tribunal had ordered Crussh to pay Raf over £30k

Yeah, sounds about right.

I remember this on Frasier:

-Manchester. That's where the Beatles are from, right?

-Oh, no. You're thinking Liverpool.

-Then who's from Manchester?

-No-one. That's why I live here now."

& I thought: Nope, no one from Manc would ever say that in 1 mill years.

I think a big element of this discourse is obscuring that the working class is in reality very ethnically diverse - reinforcing a very non-immigrant theme part vision of what "working class" means.

In fact: in more cases than not, immigration is actually at least part of the answer to address the real issue. So basically: anti-immigration policies constitute a *double negative* - they prevent addressing the real issues by providing the wrong focus and they likely make the real issue worse.

If anything, buying a nicer more middle class home made me more likely to use corner shops, because I'm now farther from the main road, and bollocks to walking 15 minutes to Tesco or to the nice Asian greengrocers if it's peeing it down.

I made the obvious joke that on Tinder everyone is Horniman.

Free speech is the wrong framework for thinking about hard conversations, political or otherwise. When everyone is a bit scared, hurt, and confused, we need collaborative dialogue, not antagonistic debate, and that is mostly a matter of listening, not speaking.

If you want to know who the runners and riders are in Moldova's election today, I've gone through them here.

PAS (Party of Action Solidarity - 'pas' also means 'step' in Romanian). Liberal pro-European party. Officially led by PM Igor Grosu, de facto led (and initially founded) by the President Maia Sandu. A Harvard economics grad who worked for the world bank, Sandu returned to Moldova...

In times of economic uncertainty people are drawn harder to iffy get rich schemes.

At some point in Romania in the early '90s, about 30% of households are believed to have put money in a pyramid scheme and at it heights up to half of the country's GDP was in those dodgy schemes.

I see similarities

That would be a good thing. But if you have too many measures that go in the opposite direction, it may dilute the effect.

What you want to achieve more than anything is to empower disabled people to build up savings /a safety net while they work, for the times when they can't.
