🚀Very excited to finally see our paper on nonsignificance misinterpretations published! 📈
Together, @smurphee.bsky.social, Aurelio Fernández, Linda Reimann and I investigated the prevalence of "p > .05 = absence of an effect" interpretations. (1/4)

Really elegant study design and those findings are both fascinating and a little unsettling! 🥲

✨ In 'CRediTs for Students', we developed empirically informed materials – such as a supervision agreement and authorship guidelines – for students and supervisors to foster the transparent and systematic recognition of students' contributions to science. osf.io/tygsp/

Among other things, we developed an 🚦Authorship Guideline and a 📝Supervision Agreement to support student authorship and spark early conversations about credit and contributions!
And we're currently evaluating the impact that these tools had at our department. 📊

Teaching needs more space for moments like these.
For curiosity. For honest questions. For the stuff that doesn’t 'need to be on the test'.

To the students who stayed: thank you. I don't think I will ever forget this last session. ❤️

This small gesture, their willingness to stay and genuine interest, made wrapping up this chapter after five years of tutoring feel a lot easier and more meaningful.
raphaelmerz.bsky.social
But then they said that they all wanted to stay (during their exam period, I should mention)!

So they stayed late to hear a talk that wasn’t on the exam, just because they were interested. And it was great. They were engaged, curious, thoughtful.

It reminded me why I love teaching.
raphaelmerz.bsky.social
But the students had lots of questions about past topics today, so we used the whole session for that.

Once again, I didn’t get to give my little open science talk.

I told them that I would record it later and send it to them in case they were interested.

It was the last session of the statistics tutorial I’ve been teaching and also my last session ever, since I’m leaving university.

I’d been trying to squeeze in a short segment (outside the official content) on the replication crisis and open science all semester, but it always got pushed back.
raphaelmerz.bsky.social
So, I just had a real-life “Oh Captain, my Captain” moment during my statistics tutorial. 🧵

A lot of discussions about open science in psychology happened on blogs. I have been archiving them and will make their content available. I remember 37 blogs (with 2827 posts!) but which blogs did I forget, and are not on my list? Please share and reply with any that are missing!

First time presenting at a big conference: check!

So happy to see how the community of PYMS is growing over the last couple of days, and how people are constantly finding each other to hang out at #metascience2025. This is what PYMS is all about!

We had a great time at our session at #metascience2025 on Monday! We got a lot of new members and connections that joined our community over the last days.

Missed our talk, and want to join PYMS or learn more? Find one of our board members at the last day of the conference!
