It says a lot that Trump can find $20 billion to bail out Argentina, but won't help the millions of Americans who are in real need at home.

Thank you to former CFPB Director Rohit Chopra for explaining.

Thought-provoking and important article. This turns on its head the Israeli argument that Palestinians don't belong in Gaza or the West Bank. Palestinian Jews and Palestinian Christians were there first and ancestors of almost all Palestinians.

What Does It Mean To Say ‘Jesus Is Palestinian’?
Some Christians bristle at the assertion that Jesus is Palestinian. Why?

Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings.

Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that.

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.

For the sake of argument only, let's assume 10% of the 2,600 DOE employees are less than fully productive. If you fire 50% of all DOE employees without plan or criteria, you'll still have 130 less-than-productive employees. This is but one result of lazy and indiscriminate budget reductions.

Not once has Musk provided evidence of waste, fraud, or abuse. Why he hasn't should be obvious: there is none, at least none he can prove. He would fail the most basic college course in economics.

musk illegally seized control of the treasury and now wants to end social security and medicare and plunge tens of millions of americans into destitution so that we won’t go “bankrupt,” a thing that practically-speaking can’t happen
Musk: "The waste and fraud in entitlement spending -- that's the big one to eliminate. That's the half trillion, maybe 600 or 700 billion a year. That's also the mechanism by which Democrats attract & retain illegal immigrants by essentially paying them to come here & then turning them into voters."

So much for the Christian value of feeding the poor. J. D. Vance, how do you defend this??
Trump’s foreign aid demolition hits major Christian charities
In a closed-door meeting, U.S. officials touted their success in “zeroing out” foreign assistance, but the downsizing has clipped religious allies, too.

Here's a list of DOGE staff, assembled and annotated by my colleagues at BI. Whatever you do, please don't share it.

We got a DOGE staff list. From a McKinsey alum to a former Clarence Thomas clerk, here are the workers powering Elon Musk's cost-cutting squad.
A list of White House DOGE staffers shows about 30 young tech, finance, and legal professionals remaking the federal government.

I retired from Lane Community College (2nd largest in Oregon) after 12 years as CFO & VP for administration. We would never have let Elon Musk into our data systems. It would have been a dangerous breach of privacy & security. Why should he have access to incredibly sensitive federal data?

This is DOGE transparency: so transparent it's invisible... This is the totality of their website; notice all the reports on their work.

Donald Trump tried to illegally shut down funding for programs that millions of people rely on.

Community health centers, Head Start programs, and charities are still having trouble accessing funds.

Meanwhile, the taxpayers are paying for Trump's trip to the Super Bowl.

I've said this before: Trump is way too lazy and ignorant to do the hard work of governing. He lets Elon drop bombs on federal agencies while he proclaims himself the dictator of the Lincoln Center.

If this year taught us anything, it's that:

1) Workers keep America going, not billionaires.
2) Corporate profits don't trickle down to workers.
3) Poverty is a policy choice.
4) Health care is a human right.
5) Strikes work.

I hope we act on these lessons in the new year.
