This is what gender surveillance looks like. It’s sexual harassment. The idea that this “protects women” is painfully ridiculous.

Totally blown away by The Apocalyptic Professor by Jerry Z. Muller about Jewish scholar Jacob Taubes. From the Apostle Paul to the Frankfurt School, this biography of a flawed yet fascinating man from Princeton University Press is so worth it.

Also, I'll admit, I'm enough of a humanist to be annoyed at their insistence that I should let machines do all my reading, thinking, and human interaction for me.

If I wanted to avoid thinking, I could have just become a business major.
Probably the saddest thing about generative ai is that it does have a lot of great and helpful use cases, undermined by the quasi-religious mania of enthusiasts and the hellscape of tech companies desperate to forestall the incoming bubble bursting.

This really fits what I heard anecdotally from so many friends who talked to a lot of Trump voters (including my partner, who knocked a lot of doors for Democrats, and friends who talked a lot with coworkers at their working-class jobs and were dismayed by what they heard)
Finally got to this from @jwmason.bsky.social. Wage growth was great during the Biden admin (eliminated a ton of inequality) but the lapsing of pandemic era social support--not just cash aid or superdole but insurance, food, eviction protections--did leave a large chunk of folks materially worse off
Harris Lost on the Economy. Don’t Blame the Voters for It.
It wasn’t just inflation. There’s a good reason so many people decided they didn’t feel better off during the 2024 election, J.W. Mason writes in a guest commentary.
