Highly highly recommend this book. One of the most compelling books I've read, and I can scarcely imagine how goddamn difficult it was to research and write.

3 inches of rain between 6 pm and 9 pm last night. At the heaviest point of the deluge, rain was falling at a rate of 6.76 inches/hour in the backyard.

Occurring under the radar of most of us unless you happened to be cued into this movement distributed throughout the country. Their goals are so outrageous they should be wrapped in a conspiracy theory. Instead, it is all too real.
Interesting piece; thank you. I'm not surprised. While I can't always point to direct connections among these groups, the core argument in my book is that because of their strategies around xtian education these patriarchal theocratic far-right xtians have had tremendous hidden influence

Sunset with the sun filtered through several layers of clouds. Sky is slowly clearing up after frontal passage yesterday. Relieved temps have dropped with the front coming through. Both lovely and refreshingly cool.

Happened across this planter box of black-eyed susans in town today. It is in between several paved areas, in another town it may have remained untended and bare. But here it is an occasion to plant flowers. What makes this place special.

My walk down from the top includes an abandoned road leading toward town where I finish with a post-walk Diet Coke. When the light is just right, I amble into a scene most prosaic.

Near the top of the mountain is a grove of Sycamores. Shaped and twisted over time by wind, rain, cold, snow and, most recently, Tropical Storm Helene, they prevail. Inspiring.

High tension wires notwithstanding, my walk up in the mountain this morning included greeting the sun rising above adjoining mountain ridgeline.
