One of the most precious things about Remembrance is that it sets no political tests.

It asks only that we "remember", and that we do so in the silence of our own thoughts.

It doesn't dictate what we remember, how we remember or what lessons we draw.

That's between ourselves and our conscience.🧵

Just been in an evening meeting with a couple of volunteers, one of whom was getting a bit jumpy as we hit the half hour.
"I've got a plane to catch. I need to leave in 5"

I encouraged them to just go and get their plane.

Lesson for the day: time and tide and aeroplane schedules wait for no man.

Interesting article by @emermoreau.bsky.social for BBC News.

When teaching my son to drive, I felt a manual licence was important to gain so as to not limit himself to the way life is in the UK. What if he wanted to work in Africa or Asia or anywhere that has older cars?
What is driving the decision to learn in a manual or automatic car?
Learner drivers say a lack of automatic instructors and the higher cost of lessons pushes them to manual.

Tell me this doesn't sound like a Colin Dexter novel! There's a Lord Morse? And I thought Enigma was an unusual, made-up forename.

The library at Chatsworth 🤩

I've always fancied a library and a chapel in my own home: this would just about do as a library!

I think I've grown out of these ambitions, however!

Keir Starmer is our main hope for the country in the near future but in his excitable speech today I can't help thinking he sounds like a cross between the late racing commentator Peter O'Sullevan and a dalek.

Ladies and Gentlemen I'm rather moved and very sad to learn that Jay Wynne -- BBC Weatherman -- passed away back in June after a long illness.

We need many more people with the gentleness and care that Jay represented, not fewer.

Much love to his brother Matthew and his wider family 💙
