They said "It's settled law / it's precedent". None ever said they wouldn't overturn it. Thomas is basically saying "You were all suckers for thinking we cared about precedent. We got what we wanted." People heard what they wanted to hear, and the GOP knew they'd get away with it. And here we are.

But then most people in the States were brought up with organized Christianity, which is authoritarian and patriarchal, and takes advantage of the human need to belong to a social group. Questioning such authority risks being abandoned.

FYI - People outside the US are aware of & care about US politics, since it has worldwide influence, and we aren't censored from or immune from it.

I would guess that a big component of their "loyalty" is that they all know they can very easily be financially ruined because they live off loans against their stock portfolios and assets, and have very little cash wealth. Fear is an effective motivator.
