There's a lot of bad stuff going on in the world that I can't do much about, but nothing can stop me from Care Bear Staring.

Oh, so it was fine to take missions from Pericles but not Harriet Tubman.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

If anyone needs to hear it from a cis guy:

The worst thing isn't the Democratic Party continuing to lose Federal control.

The worst thing is the Democratic party also turning against human rights in the states and municipalities they do control.
readingdanger.bsky.social
Kerr, what's worse than Democrats losing a general election is Democrats turning their back on trans people, because that affects every state and municipality that Democrats control.

Loss of Federal rights suck, but people need to be safe somewhere.

Library workers, what do you like to see most in managers?
readingdanger.bsky.social
This kind of thing happens EVERY DAY in our tax-funded public libraries!

Empathetic but firm library workers give people chances and people work with us. And it's okay.

Now, have you ever tried to work with a highly privileged person about their challenging behavior in a public space? Hooo buddy!
readingdanger.bsky.social
Let me tell you a story about homeless people in the library. There was a whole group of them acting odd and spreading items out in the seating area they were occupying. + several rule infractions. So I and another staff member told them what to correct over an hour. And they did. Good day for all.
readingdanger.bsky.social
Some library workers clearly DO understand that harassment and threats comes along with public service, which is why they're more boldly advocating for public libraries to become private clubs that exclude classes of people.

Consider a non public service job instead.
readingdanger.bsky.social
Employees aren't failing staff by failing to prevent all harassment/threats from members of the public. What's on employers is how they respond and empower staff to respond.

I have to wonder if some folks never worked retail etc.
readingdanger.bsky.social
I've been hearing conflation lately of (a) public library workers shouldn't have to tolerate harassment/threats and (b) public library workers shouldn't have to be harassed/threatened.

While both would be great, (b) is unfortunately part of the nature of public service jobs.

Glad to see Scalzi be challenged and take it to heart.

Good is something we do, not something we are.

Noted, and acknowledgement that the casual "Old Testament/New Testament" division can carry the freight of antisemitism, which I suspect was not intended either by the original comment (and definitely not by me), but it's okay to say, whoops, let's not do that again

Not to disagree with your point about humans, but the Jewish god, a.k.a. the god of the Old Testament, it’s not actually crueler than the Christian god. We literally just finished a holiday that is entirely about mercy and forgiveness.

It's called literary engagement.

are swifties okay
patreegs on instagram says

You need to listen to it once completely through while driving a car alone. Then you have to
listen to it indoors lying down. THEN you pick a few and listen to them WHILE you read the lyrics on your computer. You WILL find that you misheard some of the lyrics. DONT panic. Its COMPLETELY normal and healthy. DONT think about taylors life yet and DONT try to make sense of the lyrics and DONT panic if you dont like some of the songs at first bc your brain will LEARN to like them (evolutionary mechanism).
THEN, continue listening on loop as needed but have 2-3 that you sometimes just listen to on repeat. THEN re-emerge into the world and connect with others about their response to the text. THEN apply practically to your life. THEN examine how they fit into taylors. At this point you can start to lightly engage in online discourse if that feels healthy and safe.

I didn't know he was Jewish until I saw that cartoon with facial features, pose, and vampire theme that screamed antisemitic art. Then checked and yep.

(I know it's a Fuseli painting reference too. Artist should have stuck to that.)
readingdanger.bsky.social
True, but depicting a Jewish person as a vampire is an antisemitic trope.

Good faith heads-up about that.
readingdanger.bsky.social
There is a lot of valid discussion about how far, exactly, public libraries should go to provide equitable service to homeless people, to disabled people, to addicted people, to people with mental health conditions.

What I won't tolerate is: "What if we stop trying?"

People like to claim that autistics are bad at communicating and like, my dude, the problem does not lie with us, it lies with the web of manipulation and lies and passive aggression and ulterior agendas that you weave around yourselves instead of just doing what we do, which is saying what we mean.

Lots to not like about aging, but on the bright side I get to be an old man. Looking forward to that.

Favorite bosses, when I was having the most fun:

Bleh. Two days of no longer having fun fighting bosses with enormous hitpoint pools means I'm quitting Silksong at 95%.

Part of what I liked about HOLLOW KNIGHT is that it wasn't this extreme. Feels like they did this to cater to players who would have been better served by a hard difficulty.

First credits roll on SILKSONG. Now it's time for Act 3!

For the last several days I've had my fingers override what my higher attention thinks the notation says and be consistently right about it. It's like having a little corrective parasite.

That's progress!

I'm enjoying this phase of not being good at piano. Much easier on the hands than when I was not good at guitar.
