A better phrasing is "You can't eat your cake and still have it."

Also, the phrase doesn't mean "you can't have it both ways at the same time," it means that having it one way makes the other way impossible.
“You can’t have your cake and eat it too” is such a damn stupid phrase…I don’t want to own a cake for, like, display purposes. Is that a thing people want?? A /liability/??

No, I want to put it in my god damned mouth.

Ok but fountains of wayne is underrated
People love to talk about how underrated things are. That actor is underrated, that band is underrated, that team was underrated. A person can just like something without asserting their superior taste and ahead-of-its-time sensibility

The best way for a microblogging site like Bluesky to overtake the others (especially X/Twitter) is a feature where you can import your posts (with original timestamps) from the other sites.
I think the biggest thing keeping people on the other sites is the feeling of starting over.

This is a good example of why you should read past the headline, because the entire article is about all of the preparation that went into successfully avoiding the Y2K bug, and it seems to be derived from contemporary coverage.
DAMMIT NPR.

I spent nine months upgrading over TEN THOUSAND desktops at a F500 client. The grand total was over SEVENTY THOUSAND applications upgraded.

Y2K "didn't live up to the hype" because the industry busted ass to duct tape everything first.

People feared the computer glitch would mean "the end of the world as we know it." Thankfully, Y2K didn't live up to the hype after years and billions of dollars were spent on painstaking preparation.

He should have started wearing a suit after they relaxed the dress code as a way to say "I'm wearing this suit out of respect, not because I'm being forced to."
now that people are anti-fetterman let me say that i think it is disrespectful that he walks around the senate chamber in a hoodie and shorts
