I already know several cis people who, for years, have been questioned when using public bathrooms, because of their body shape, clothing choices, or hairstyles. I hate that more people aren't fighting to stop this bathroom policing bullshit.
I don’t think people who can’t be convinced to care about the lives of trans women grasp the endgame here. The first time a cis woman is unlawfully arrested, or assaulted, for using the women’s bathroom, the response won’t be, “Amend this law.” It will be the very familiar, “What was she wearing?”
I asked the introducer of Nebraska’s anti-trans bathroom bill how she knows I was assigned female at birth. She conceded that she doesn’t know. The reality is, this bill would turn every public bathroom into a battleground where ppl are harassed and reported based on stereotypes.
