Kind of a big day for me, folks. I never thought my first published book would be a how-to guide for parental death, but here we are. It’s well-researched, it’s funny, and it’s officially available for pre-order: www.deadparentswhatnow.com/book
My Parents Are Dead: What Now? A Panic-Free Guide to the Practicalities of Death — My Parents Are Dead: What Now?
Pre-order the My Parents Are Dead: What Now? book! Available January 6, 2026 from Quirk Books.

Book 47 of 2025: NEFANDO by @monaojedaf.bsky.social. Loved her book Jawbone, so I was excited to dive into this one about a mysterious video game—which was very good and also absolutely fucked. Fair warning! If you can handle intense brutality in horror, you should read it. 📚👀
The cover of Mónica Ojeda’s novel NEFANDO, translated by Sarah Booker, featuring what appears to be an orange eye with a crocodile-scale iris and a lightning-shattered pupil beneath a series of empty boxes, clickable x’s scattered throughout.

Ok so here’s the thing I really enjoy writing my newsletter and I try to keep it more Cool Fun Info and less self-promo. It would mean a lot if you subscribed on this, the one-year anniversary! 🎉 💀

In the middle of a black background, a skeleton wearing an orange and yellow party hat dances amidst a field of colorful confetti. A spiky speech bubble coming from its mouth says "Happy One Year Newsletter Anniversary!" Above and below this image, white and green text reads: Find your niche in The Columbarium. Worked with Gaby on my book for not long enough! If you need a publicist, she’s great. 💗

...anyway! I am looking for work (and have been for months actually!!) and also soft-launching that I'm doing freelance marketing and publicity. if you have a book coming out that you think would benefit from a thoughtful publicist/marketer, I'd love to help you get it into the world!

Have we all noticed that the price of bananas has gone up?!?! Only by ten cents or so, but if this keeps up, it could be devastating for my daily banana habit. 🍌

If you like Earl Gray, you might want to give Twining’s Lady Gray a try. They made it for the Scandinavian market—it’s a little more citrus, a little less heavy. I enjoy it! And it’s easy to find at the grocery store. Also, Celestial Seasoning’s Bengal Spice is a winter favorite of mine.

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

while I nodded, cartwheel slapping / on the stage, some double-tapping / harsh vox not unlike rapping, yet not rapping, to be sure / ok that's enough of this

Exactly. I grew up by a big outlet mall with a movie theater and it was basically the only thing we were able to do as teens in my very boring suburb. (To this day I am extremely anti-suburb due to my teenage longing for anything more interesting. 😂)
rebb003.bsky.social
YES!! I went to the theater the other day and a group of kids was trying to go in and they kicked them out. I don’t know what I would’ve done as a teen if I couldn’t go to the movies.

Let me know next time! I can help you carry them in 💗

That’s a good point. And I don’t blame you for wanting him to stay away! The ICE presence seems to be getting way worse there, and they clearly have no respect for the rule of law.
rebb003.bsky.social
This is horrifying on a million levels. But also—if any of these dudes started ordering me around, I wouldn’t believe that they were real law enforcement officers. They just look like random white supremacist creeps off the street. No identifying badge or uniform. How are people supposed to know?

ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

ICE is absolutely out of control in Chicago.

ICE just gassed a group a civilians near the Rico Fresh supermarket intersection on Armitage in Chicago - bystanders say this was in response for being heckled from the street.

Book 46 of 2025: HURRICANE SEASON by Fernanda Melchor. What a book! Violent, sweeping, poetic, weird, tragic. Despite its brutality, you don’t want to stop reading. 📚👀
The cover of Fernanda Melchor’s novel HURRICANE SEASON, featuring a harsh white tear across the black background, rending the title and author’s name in two.

Book 45 of 2025: KILL YOUR DARLING by @claymcleod.bsky.social. Read this in one sitting for @horrorbookstore.bsky.social’s book club and now I am very sad! It is depressing-scary! A good one to devour quickly, though. 📚👀
The cover of Clay McLeod Chapman’s KILL YOUR DARLING, featuring a child in a blue t-shirt with duct tape wrapped all around his head, round eyes poorly sketched on top in sharpie.
