An opportunity not to be missed! The indomitable @thenaturedave.bsky.social advertising a fully funded 5-year PhD and 2-year postdoc (soon) at Rutgers in the US. I loved my time living in NJ & this is a chance to join what will no doubt be a fearsomely amazing lab. Apply or share!

Aye we looked into camping & definitely see the need for that option for hiding from rain!
rebeccasenior.bsky.social
Cool, thanks! Do you camp at Knepp? How long are you there for?
rebeccasenior.bsky.social
Folks who run undergraduate ecology field courses in the UK - where do you go? I know the @fieldstudiesc.bsky.social centres are popular. Any others? (Ideally in N England or Scotland).

Just got the final proofs of my book💓

Available on Amazon worldwide next week
Very exciting!

I’ve packed into it everything I’ve learned about writing and publishing over the past 20 years

I really hope it helps many jump over the writing and publishing barriers💪

Thank you for writing it! It sums it up perfectly 😄 (and reading this paper again, I'm reminded of how much it inspired me during my PhD - so thanks for that too!)

I FOUND IT. I once read a great line about how weather station data are only useful for things living on the weather station. I wanted to cite it but could never remember the damn paper! By sheer luck, it found me. From @mikekaspari.bsky.social in @globalchangebio.bsky.social

Last year I published a paper showing how many threatened species are lacking documented conservation actions. New paper just out and led by @ashsimkins.bsky.social shows that when conservation interventions *are* in place, it works!
ashsimkins.bsky.social
*Positive news* Despite global declines in biodiversity, we find conservation has driven improvements in >100 species. This suggests with greater resource allocation to more species, conservation can halt and reverse biodiversity loss! First PhD paper: doi.org/10.1371/jour...

Our new paper and software tool PointsToWood is out! Led by Harry Owen and Targeted at high performance for small branches, PointsToWood performs #deeplearning enabled leaf-wood semantic segmentation of high resolution #TLS point clouds. 🌿 🌲 🌳

👇performance on unseen tropical data
Image shows leaf (black) wood (red) separation by PointsToWood on an unseen tropical forest dataset from Cameroon. Even though we only trained on European forest data, the diversity and high quality of our training dataset results in excellent performance in other biomes.
