Fascism isn't a disease. Fascism isn't a disability. Fascism isn't a lack of education. Fascism isn't foreign.

Fascism is a defence of established power and privilege through the dehumanisation of anyone that challenges it.

you can't because you don't want to

you're happy to accept all this and you're demanding everyone else does the same
recombobulating.bsky.social
they object to that message coming from academia because they see academia as holding valid authority

but people have always been capable of imagining possibilities outside of those boundaries
recombobulating.bsky.social
they're more like an intermediate level of state management

they exist within the boundaries of official approval and that grants them impunity
recombobulating.bsky.social
they've not been allowed in the room

some of them used to be

but they were bringing down the vibes

so they got kicked out

if you need total power to fight fascism then you'll never fight fascism

a lot of people can't afford to just give up like this

"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.
White People’s Performative Ignorance Is Exhausting—Opinion
Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

that's your experience of being given an unfair advantage

that's the opposite of what people were talking about

you don't seem to have learned that it's possible to honour and respect differences, rather than having to erase them before you can see people as people
recombobulating.bsky.social
no

you stood up for yourself to declare yourself pure and good

and that's always a massive red flag

its not helping

they assumed they were Smart People and that that meant all the people that mattered would agree with them and everyone else would be irrelevant 🫠
recombobulating.bsky.social
no that's what I said

it wasn't intended to be the same as what you'd said
recombobulating.bsky.social
I think they assume that people are either Rational and will share their perspective on all of this, or Irrational and therefore irrelevant and safe to ignore
recombobulating.bsky.social
Are you saying that the people complaining are being dishonest??

I think most people recognise that they can't entirely control the way they are seen by other people. But that doesn't mean they want no role in that process at all.

a lot of people have been saying it's a bad idea for quite a long time now

the only way to deliver apolitical politics is for one ideology to establish absolute power over the discourse

and that's not going to happen for either team here
recombobulating.bsky.social
some liberals spend so much time telling people to support trump that they might as well be working directly for him
recombobulating.bsky.social
computers at least historically had to actually show some indication of delivering the desired results in practice

rather than just being able to insist that reality is wrong when it dares to contradict the theory
recombobulating.bsky.social
I think they assume that academia serves as a body that determines which opinions are permitted for the wider public, so if they prevent formal approval of critical analysis then nobody will be able to do it.
recombobulating.bsky.social
they assume that people are not capable of independent thought and that academia is a body that determines which opinions are permissable for them

so they assume that if they get rid of all academic critical analysis there will be no critical analysis anywhere
recombobulating.bsky.social
Yeah that's definitely part of it I think.

Though there's a big class dimension as well, with private education staying much closer to these models that state schools.

Especially boarding schools. It's basically the whole point of them. Isolation and alienation.

Oh wait, it turns out Bragg’s solidarity is meant for his peers 🙃

I told him my wife would also avoid stickers or flags and he said "Then the stickers will send a message to white English people who are appalled by the way the flags make your wife feel that they are not alone in opposing the racists". An absolutely jaw dropping response, where to even start?!

the far right are very aware of and actively celebrate the history of violence, especially the crusades

trying to whitewash that just encourages them

this is a deeply traditional approach across 'western civilisation'

in many ways it is fundamental to Enlightenment philosophy

the belief that human nature is inherently sinful and undeserving and must be overcome in order to be considered a valid person
