I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.

if you are a trans teen right now, you do not have the lifetime of experience with the united states federal legislative branch to cope with “this will *probably* die in the senate” on top of the rest of your life and that right there feels like a fucking flavor of abuse at scale.
I haven't been in the pediatric trans healthcare system since 2019 and I can barely look at these headlines without wanting to puke.
Can't imagine the fucking damage this is doing to trans kids today.

Arcadia is one of those works of art that i can’t believe is real, it’s so perfectly constructed, with all these elements balanced just so, and yet it doesn’t feel like a machine, it’s deeply emotional and heartbreaking. Have been so grateful to see it performed.

Anyone remember the shutdown in like 2013, when it started affecting the Acela corridor trains that Important Donors relied on? And then Congress rushed back into session to make sure they were fully funded? Idk why i’m thinking about this.

Back in 2017 i pitched The Stranger on an essay inspired by this short story, about how the Mariners’ ongoing futility was the only thing keeping the world from utter collapse.
maybe the Mariners, like me, read a short story called "The Last Pennant Before Armageddon" at a formative age.
