Doug Ford is trying to fully remove any and all environmental protections for Ontario, allowing corporations to build ANYWHERE deemed economically important, including treaty lands, provincial parks, known areas of critically endangered species and just about any other depraved thing you can imagine

So the only option is to keep them in captivity. You can't study them for behaviour, physiology, etc like you could with a lion because they're fundamentally not direwolves. And since you can't breed and release them, you'll basically only have the negative aspects of a zoo with no benefits

This direwolf stuff is so painfully annoying for a variety of reasons including the obvious that no, these aren't dire wolves but more importantly, what's the benefit? There's no niche left for them to survive in so if released they'll either die or become a super invasive species

Now people are claiming that measles is good actually because it cures cancer so we should be happy there's an outbreak in the states

I'm so disappointed and disgusted but above all else infuriated. Screw the 100k people that died from it last year I guess

Our healthcare and our environment are under the control of people who were too stupid to pass science in highschool but think they know more than the actual people who've dedicated their lives to this
March 1, 2025 at 4:33 PM
Conman politicians have fully eroded people's trust in medicine and biology and it's sickening. First it was Covid and "the jab" now people are claiming measles is safe so it doesn't matter that there's an outbreak in the US despite it being eradicated there for longer than I've been alive

I pray there's a god so someone can answer for this shit

The government deciding what to send me

My bus to the lab also broke down twice this morning so I'm probably just cursed by the salmon God or something
Tfw instead of sending you sterile vials, the gov accidentally sends you five hundred samples of sea lice

Go check out my friend Mac for some bangin herpetology content
A juvenile northern red salamander (𝘗𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘥𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘳. 𝘳𝘶𝘣𝘦𝘳). Red salamanders like this can remain active throughout the winter, occupying seepages with water kept warm underground. Many animals and plants rely on these microhabitats emphasizing the importance of protecting ground water

Some saucy great blue heron pics from the summer. The rouse on the last pic is a great sign of it being comfortable (and adjusting feathers post fly)

Getting significant data with a trend that physiologically makes sense for the first time in like 8 months boutta make me act up

Tired of seeing AI vids of animals floating around out there. There are enough cool animals that do enough unique cute behaviours, why do we need to burn down a rainforest to see an ugly version of an animal pretending to hug each other instead of a real vid of actual animal parental care?

Anomalocaris wouldn't have to deal with this shit

Insane that we didn't know until like 2020 that the LARGEST fish in the world (whale shark) has scale armour on its eyeballs

I don't even get to have regular scales on mine

Hype finally got my first piece of scishow merch
If you send us $25 we will send you a postcard. That postcard will contain:
1. Autographs from all the scishow hosts
2. Art and facts from the SciShow team
3. A QR code to one of four exclusive videos from me discussing my favorite frog facts.

Despite all the pain in the world, remember when we decide to fix things, our species can do it remarkably fast. In the 80s and 90s California condors and peregrine falcons almost went extinct largely due to DDT. USA and Canada banned it (and took other actions) and now we still get to see them:)

Make sure to thank your local turkey vultures today for keeping our ecosystems clean! Not only do they get rid of dead animals, their stomachs are strong enough to fully break down rabies, removing it from the environment and keeping us safe!

Protect abundance so we don't need to save scarcity

I doubt I'd be doing my MSc if scishow didn't exist, especially back in highschool
You won't believe this. My team and I make this show called SciShow that works hard to be rigorous and accurate while also being appealing and entertaining.

We reach a LOT of people every year with episodes about crabs and neutrinos and gender and cancer and vaccines.

It's great, I love it.
