Unnoticed fragment from a medieval martyrology in German! One full MS is preserved in Jena (hence Jenaer Martyrologium), two other fragments are known. This one has many variants in the German dialect. Specialists' comments welcome!

I've updated the record. The fun is that now the text under the paper pastedown becomes legible (the left column is the continuation of the Daniel passage with the column break op en|de). Also, those stubs are formed by folding the leaf over itself and glueing it, since r/v are the same columns.

Middelnederlands lectionarium (Fragment), Antwerpen, Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience, C 41193. A paper pastedown on the back of a book. Some classmarks and ownership marks have been written on there, and the cover has been folded over the pastedown. Underneath the pastedown can be seen the thin outline of a manuscript leaf used as a hooked endleaf guard. A ruler is at the bottom of the picture.

I solved a nice puzzle this morning: unidentified Middle Dutch religious text on @fragmentarium.bsky.social (Antwerp, EHC, cf. @svanimpe.bsky.social ) turns out to be a lectionarium, comparable to the 1348 Lectionarium Amstelodamense (but with interesting variants). fragmentarium.ms/overview/F-8...

The marks from over a thousand supposed nailheads in the Catholicon (Mainz "1460") recently discovered by Paul Needham were, in fact, left by sand grains that fell on inked type and were crushed by the platen into the type. Revised article on this analysis at:
