In recent decades, scholars have examined various facets of Avicenna’s #logic. But how did Avicenna himself conceptualize logic—its definition, status, and purpose? PhD student Shahab Khademi explores this question in a new paper! 👇📃 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... #philsky #histphil #HPS

This fragment from book 3 of Aristotle's Metaphysica in the Latin translation by Michael Scot is one of the new items in version 6.7 of my Supplementa tertia to Aristoteles Latinus Codices that was released today! (Copenhagen, KB, Fragm. 1258)

Incidentally, I am still looking for this MS!
I reached out to the Kristeller archives @columbiauniversity.bsky.social some time ago, but still waiting for the reply. I guess their staff are having a rough time!

Kristeller (Iter Italicum V, 460b) gives a description of this unlocated MS of the Latin translation of Simplicius' commentary on Aristotle's De caelo. Anyone knows where it is now?
If you are a postdoc who wants to help with the critical edition, follow this account for a job opening, soon!

Leaf from an elegantly written 15th-c MS of the anonymous Rhetorica ad Herennium, once used in a book binding as the traces on one side show (Copenhagen, KB, Fragm. 3142) #ClassicsBlueSky

I started teaching Aristotle's Ethica Nicomachea in Greek last week with the usual complaint about the lacking quality of Bywater's 19th-c OCT edition. Turns out that a new one came out this year, over 1000 pages in OA! Bound to be an improvement!

Unnoticed fragment from a medieval martyrology in German! One full MS is preserved in Jena (hence Jenaer Martyrologium), two other fragments are known. This one has many variants in the German dialect. Specialists' comments welcome!

Coming up for auction: four leaves from a MS of the Modi significandi by Boethius of Dacia, one of the emblematic philosophers of the 13th c. No specific textual or aesthetic value, but the auctioneer rates them highly (est. 2000-3000 €)!

I solved a nice puzzle this morning: unidentified Middle Dutch religious text on @fragmentarium.bsky.social (Antwerp, EHC, cf. @svanimpe.bsky.social ) turns out to be a lectionarium, comparable to the 1348 Lectionarium Amstelodamense (but with interesting variants). fragmentarium.ms/overview/F-8...

Today I knew there would be fresh Chanterelles at the market, and I was planning on something with duck or rabbit... but that's not what they had.

Instead, I have three kinds of mushrooms, veal osso bucco, fresh broad beans, smoked pork jowl, roast buckwheat, and stew veg...
ingredients as above
