Galaxy brain who just wants to brunch
(Which is true of my work as well because I study people who were genocided and basically can only do so through colonial materials because the colonizer destroyed everything but that's a whole other thing.)

And as a person who studied the art of indigenous people at the time when "colonial" and "global" became A Thing, I'd like to point out that colonial means colonizer. You are just studying the colonizer, and, if you're looking at indigenous art at all, it's through the lens of the colonizer.

I haven't looked at jobs in art history in almost a decade, so thank you to this article for encouraging me to, and upon doing so I said "what a great year for people in my field!" and it's like four jobs that are "global" and almost all of them include studying Europe as an option.

The actual job description is basically "vibes, of the global variety." The academic job market is so broken.

Wait…omg…this entire anecdote I mean argument is premised on the experience of someone who DIDN’T EVEN ATTEMPT THE MARKET????

I literally applied to hundreds of jobs over seven or eight years before getting a TT job offer.

The list of things we are supposed to quit grows longer every day:

Alcohol
Sugar
Milk
Driving
Napping
Carbs

The only replacements being offered are weed, pharmaceutical and xenophobia/racism.

Like she was fine two weeks ago and then a little bit sick and then apparently overnight cancer took over her intestines and we could do surgery and she might make it 4 months or we could just say goodbye and so we did the right thing and it's awful.
