Watching antisocial driver behavior in the school drop-off line makes it really clear that the pandemic destroyed whatever few shreds remained of the social compact, just pathological selfishness on display every day

A lot of people do not really seem to know this sort of stuff

It is true you can't trust Israel or the US but you should probably be aware the ceasefire doesn't begin until Saturday or Sunday and Israel has a long history of intensifying bombardment until the official starting point of a ceasefire.

Extremely extremely relatable context

Also we are seeing Oratorio again this week so let's just keep everything kind of chill, universe.

We wound up seeing it on 3/26/2022, a day before I turned 45. And Terce, what a story that was. Our cat had emergency surgery the day we were supposed to see it and I kept saying we could still make it. We didn't. We bought tickets for two weeks later, one day after we said goodbye to our cat.

Oh my god, I have loved Heather Christian's work since I first saw Animal Wisdom at the Bushwick Starr in 2017. I saw it the year after two major losses in my life and I just sobbed. We had tickets to see Oratorio for Living Things at Ars Nova on March 27, 2020, my first pandemic birthday.

Cats only matter 85% as much!
reneemc.bsky.social
I won't ever get over that when something is wrong with one of my cats and I research it (in peer-reviewed pubs), the actual research is like, well, this is what we do for dogs, so we tried it with cats, and it's like 100% effective in dogs but 85% effective in cats, we don't need to figure out why.

Pritzker is offering the following at the moment:

1. Trust the courts. [not a viable strategy]
2. "Film the cops"
3. Vote in 2026
4. Protest [peacefully]

And he knows this is not sufficient. Everyone does.

He will not address the local cops angle because he might be deposed...

This very very very bad. I cannot stress this enough. I said that they crossed the Rubicon with arresting Ras Baraka several months ago. This is very bad and portends more bad things for regular people.

"There just isn’t enough time. There’s only what we manage to make of it—what we build, what we protect, what we remember to carry to the car. The gas mask. The snacks. The question we forgot to ask. The name of the person taken." My latest.

Connect with your people offline. Take the chats to signal but also take your close relationships offline entirely. We need to be connected when they shut this all down.

What’s your organizing plan if things go dark? Where do you meet? Who picks up what work? How do we communicate?

Dear god, we keep getting these emails with escalating urgency about making sure we get our laptops inventoried and I went up to the floor and couldn't find the room and just wondered around for several minutes until I gave up. Why put up a sign! Oh, I know, your an IT department

Straight people think about queer people more than we think about ourselves. It’s fascinating. And boring. And creepy. Y’all don’t even go here!!!

I guess I shouldn't be *surprised* but it is making my head spin that the feds have shot two people, with live rounds, killing one of them, in Chicagoland in recent weeks, and in both cases they were very clearly found to be lying about what happened, and essentially nothing is happening about it.

A life update: this wound up paying off. I'm still applying to several jobs that are hopefully careers, but I've got my survival needs covered by a job at the airport that I'm apparently pretty good at.

And instead of being in an office alone, which was driving me mad, I see 20k people a day.

There is a line around this building to get to the line entrance to wait to get into this job fair.

At the airport. For airport jobs.

If you still know anyone who imagines that Pritzker or Johnson will order police under their command to arrest federal agents, you can send them this (1hr12min42sec timestamp). They are explicit that they will not and they view courts as only venue for enforcement.

One time she literally fell down a flight of stairs and I was like, mom, maybe don't live here anymore, and she refused to move and now ICE is making her want to move and I am like, hell yes my elderly mother will no longer live in a death trap but also feelings about what ICE is doing to us.

My 85 year old mom is so anxious about ICE activity in Chicagoland that she is (finally) actively looking to sell her house and move to a retirement community and what is happening.
