I recognized the extraordinary service of retiring San Ramon Police Chief Denton Carlson on the House Floor today. After more than two decades of serving the San Ramon community, Chief Carlson’s retirement is well deserved, but he will be missed.

It was wonderful to tour the Loaves and Fishes kitchen in Martinez and meet with volunteers and staff to discuss efforts to combat food insecurity in Contra Costa, particularly as we approach Thanksgiving. In the wealthiest country in the world, no one should go hungry.

Last week’s news that Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family will be forced to pay up to $7 billion to the victims of the opioid crisis and to local agencies for recovery programs is an important step toward justice for victims of the opioid crisis this company helped fuel (1/2).
