For example, when I was mugged at gunpoint by 2 people, I rationalized with them why murdering me over my phone was dumb.
I didn't fight them. I talked them out of it.
It worked.
They took off without my phone.

I looked up Bovino's Wikipedia. He was raised in NC and spent his entire career in border patrol along Texas, SoCal, & Louisiana. So yeah, he's not at all prepared for this weather.
