True freedom is not just the absence of chains but the presence of purpose. It's not the right to do anything—it's the responsibility to choose what is good, meaningful, and true.

Harry Emerson Fosdick often said that we are not fulfilled unless we find a purpose bigger than ourselves. But an important detail is left out. When you find that purpose bigger than your self-interest, it will scare you.

I’m quoting one of the best humans I know @timlongman.bsky.social This is shaping into a humanitarian disaster.
Having worked extensively with USAID in the DR Congo since 2007, I can attest that the staff there are fantastic people who worked hard to promote health and development in challenging circumstances. To treat them so poorly is a dark mark of shame on the Trump/Musk administration.

I spent time reading statements on immigration from many denominations this week, including Episcopal, Roman Catholic, SBC, UCC and Lutheran churches. Immigration is not a partisan political issue for the church but a bedrock ministry. 70 percent of refugees resettled are assisted by churches.

The point of gaslighting is to make us afraid that we are truly alone. It is not just dread of an enemy, but the fear that our friends and allies will abandon us. Friendship is essential to staying grounded in truth.
