Reading this release (www2.acadiau.ca/about-acadia...) makes me even more angry at the process we just endured. Acadia demonstrated both sides can commit to not only maintaining relationships but strengthening them. For me, relationships feel fractured and repair will take time.

Screen capture of a portion of an Acadia press release that reads: The negotiating teams revised 39 articles— 74% of the collective agreement —and created seven Memorandums of Agreement (MOA). Negotiators met 21 days at the table from May 6 to August 8 this year, and settled amicably at the table on August 8.

“The two teams did a tremendous amount of work in a relatively short period of time and reached an agreement without a need for outside intervention.” says Anthony Pash, AUFA Lead Negotiator. “We thank the Board’s team for their hard work and willingness to engage in productive debate, and we hope that this is the model for negotiations going forward.”

I'm still concerned about disrespectful *actions*, including the lockout itself and the damage it caused to everyone (a difficult Fall term for students & faculty, loss of pay, for some loss of grant opportunities). Before we move on, I think we need those responsible to acknowledge those harms.

I made the mistake of checking my junk folder and learned that the #DalLockout2025 did a bunch of bad things, even to the president who ordered it.

I'll be using the e-mail in class as an example of how the passive voice is used to cloud responsibility.

Just when you thought it was safe to check your Dal email…

I do feel badly that #DalLockout2025 upset our senior admin so. They should probably look into who ordered it so they can be told never to do something so destructive again, and to refund the students.

I've also found students ready to participate and learn. They know what they have missed.

Disrespectful discourse? I assume not from senior admin, in their opinion?

I will believe it when I see it, the problem is also the rental $$, we need more than 19,000 affordable units, according to CMHC, Nova Scotia needs 14,500 per year of affordable units. This 19,000 total is pathetic.

And meanwhile Acadia is providing more childcare spaces with faculty and staff getting priority.

So our department is doubly burdened this term; coping with a fractured term and expelled from our offices, packing urgently for a move by Christmas. The Admin will take our spots, making vanity upgrades like real wood panels in the elevators, not new daycare spaces. #keepdalstrong?

As I said in Senate yesterday: saying course outcomes won’t be affected is a pipe dream. Of course they will.

But unlike lengthier disruptions in the past to 90%+ of courses (pandemics, massive storms), this one was a choice, made by Kim Brooks and the Board.

Refund the students. #KeepDalStrong

“We will be supporting instructors in adjusting course delivery to meet required learning outcomes"... ummm, k? With the extended week into December, we still have lost 2 weeks. Luckily for Evolution, we know what to cut back on. This isn't possible in other programs. #KeepDalStrong?
Dalhousie University says it won’t offer tuition refunds following month-long lockout

I mentioned tech offered to teach me classroom set up on Sept. 2 when classes were empty because of the strike. I asked them to come before class today, but got no response. I assume this is the level of support instructors can expect as they try to work overtime to salvage the term? #keepdalstrong?

With cuts to many supports services and new orders on videos and transcriptions of lectures, it's not clear that we are supported enough to make term successful. But there's no excuse to charge students for missed time.
