Finally I would like to say that this is a very special paper! We started working on it as the 3 PhD students of the #RUDE project. Working and learning together with @alinazumbrunn.bsky.social and @antonialang.bsky.social‬ has been one of the greatest experiences during the project! ✨

This paper brings together and expands insights from different disciplines and connect them to the PS literature on the R/U divide: we should delve into this kind of questions if we want to better understand this phenomenon! The whole paper is here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Where does place-based identity come from? The role of place experience
In recent times, there has been an upsurge in research on the rural-urban divide. A consensus is emerging within the academic community, recognizing t…

We analysed survey data from more than 13,000 individuals living in both rural and urban areas of Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Switzerland and found that there are some general patterns (in both rural and urban places and in all the countries) and some specific ones

Once we knew that place-based identity is a key element when understanding the R/U divide in political attitudes, we asked ourselves: where does this identity come from? how do experiences within the place both in the past and the present shape identity? (2/5)

‼️Our new paper with magnificent colleagues @alinazumbrunn.bsky.social @antonialang.bsky.social‬ on how place experience shapes place-based (rural/urban) identity is now out at the Journal of Rural Studies!

📝Why has a Bukele-style far-right party emerged in Spain—even though VOX already exists?

In our new paper, @javierpadilla.bsky.social, @canalejoalvaro.bsky.social and I explain the unexpected rise of SALF ("Let the Party Be Over") in the 2024 EP elections:

Does prepaid postage on ballot return envelopes increase voter turnout? In our new paper in @electoralstudies.bsky.social @pierre-lue.bsky.social and I analyse all Swiss municipalities (2005 to 2023) and find that the increase in turnout lags several years behind and depends on the municipal context

Very important read by @timbale.bsky.social on the strange (and dangerous) trend among news commentators and media practitioners to use the term "hard right" to categorize far-right parties and politicians. Don't. It sanitizes and normalizes them.

Far-right parties are doing well – so it’s important that we see them for what they are. Yet, in the UK, the label ‘hard right’ is catching on. Why is debateable. But, argues, @timbale.bsky.social, this misdescription sanitises far-right parties, and we should push back against it

Our Element is out! 🎉

Why do authoritarian-leaning leaders target women’s and LGBTQ+ rights? Is there a systematic pattern that reaches beyond individual country cases, and how is this reflected in people’s attitudes and societal norms?
