Mitch McConnell went nearly a year without letting the Senate consider a replacement for Anthony Scalia. Mike Johnson hopes to go 15 months without swearing in Adelita Grijalva.

JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

It's interesting seeing the different ways resistance has formed in different cities. Los Angeles Organized, Chicago Radicalized, and Portland Got Weird as Fuck. All 3 have had success unifying their respective cities.

I guess my point is there are multiple paths to ungovernability.

Gallego has been about as good at messaging on the GOP refusing to fund the government as you can be.

Ran into Speaker Johnson and told him exactly how I feel about Republicans shutting down the government to protect pedophiles and jack up health care costs for 24 million Americans.

So relieved to know that the Fourth Estate is on the alert protecting our democracy.

Really, New York Times? A "how-to" story?

We should never forget that on July 1, 2024, SCOTUS gave Joe Biden six months to arrest or even execute Donald Trump with no fear of prosecution for his presidential actions. Failing to do so, Biden enabled Trump to be elected president and carry out the fascist takeover of the federal government.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

We can agree to disagree on this one. There are incessant and countless media slurs and egregious phrasings. This doesn’t track that way for me.

Right. But the adjectival phrase “Democrat-led” means led by Democrats. That seems obvious to me.
rgrusin.bsky.social
I agree with your point about Republicans refusing the Democratic Party its name. But in this example Democrat is a noun not an adjective. The cities are led by Democrats. There's a lexical imbalance here: the Republican party is made up of Republicans; the Democratic party is made up of Democrats.

ICE is hog tying protesters in Portland and removing them on Dollies.

This is dangerous and could cause serious injury.

The Department of Homeland Security thinks it’s a joke.

They’ve shared this video with the tagline “Refuse to Walk? We’ll give you a ride”.

Stay strong Portland.
