People’s content and IP is becoming the music industry - sucked up in the cloud and then used to blackmail us into a never-ending subscription, just so we can access our own stuff.

JD Vance is going to Indiana *again* on Friday to try to convince Indiana Republicans to do extreme gerrymandering.

Pete Buttigieg is right:

Indiana Republicans are ashamed of this. They know it's wrong.

It's been two weeks since Adelita Grijalva was elected and Mike Johnson has still refused to seat her, unlike in past cases where he swore in new members within 24 hours.

There cannot be one set of rules for Rs and another for Ds.

Also, release the damn Epstein files already.

I want to go back to the time when this was normal - that leaders felt personal responsibility to defend and serve the people impacted by their decisions.

It has a tinge of boss-era politics but I’m ok with that.

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

Today, Senator Kaine and I will force the Senate to vote on the administration’s decision to blow up ships in the Caribbean.

If a president can unilaterally put people or groups on a list and kill them, there is no meaningful limit to his use of force.

Mayor Johnson is fired up - as we all should be.

🔥🔥🔥

Johnson: "He has defunded our education system. He has defunded our transportation system. He's firing black women across this country. He's defunding our healthcare system. This president is absolutely out of control... Chicago is going to stand firm in protecting humanity."

I love how the Boston Mayor just casually takes her baby everywhere - including police retirement ceremonies - and everyone seems to enjoy it ❤️

I really don’t know how Congressional Republicans sleep at night.

They are all traitors by allowing this executive to trample democracy and consolidate power.

They have sold us all - and for what? They won’t win in the end either.

And now this?

Jailing mayors and governors?

The ability for MAGA to emphatically contradict what they have previously said (and is recorded) with a straight face, is all kinds of impressive. I will give them that.

I do wonder about their mental coherence and stability. I would betray myself trying to do it.

There is something very heartening about this.

I like this distinctions on this map a lot.

My only quibble is with northwest NY and western PA being combined regionally with New England. I lived in a small town on the western side of PA - it is coal country - much more aligned with OH and culturally not at all like New England/Mid-atlantic.

I don't understand why I see things so differently. I see a health insurance industry that thinks it's entitled to charge people 1/3rd of their income for healthcare. That industry shouldn't be "fixed." It should be burned to the ground and its ashes pissed on.

As a politician Ted Kennedy did good things. As a human, his record is not great but it was his first wife Joan Kennedy who seemed to receive the bulk of public censure and negative press.

I imagine her life with him was harrowing and yet she survived and found a way to thrive. Amazing.

RIP

NEW: Germany opposes mass scanning of private messages.

"must be taboo in a constitutional state"

"even the worst crimes don't justify giving up basic civil rights"

Well said Minister Stefanie Hubig!

Leadership we need from Europe's democracies.
www.bmjv.de/SharedDocs/Z...
Dr. Stefanie Hubig, Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, on the occasion of political discussions about privacy in the digital space and about a proposal for an EU regulation to prevent and combat sexual abuse

„Unreasonable chat control must be taboo in a constitutional state. Private communication must never be under general suspicion.“

08. October 2025

„Unreasonable chat control must be taboo in a constitutional state. Private communication must never be under general suspicion. The state must also not force messengers to scan messages en masse for suspicious content before sending them. Germany will not agree to such proposals at EU level. We must also make progress in the fight against child pornography at EU level. That's what I'm committed to. But even the worst crimes do not justify giving up basic civil rights. The federal government's votes have insisted on this for months. And it will stay that way.“
