On Sunday, the UK government will send an emergency alert test to every mobile and tablet that's 4G and 5G compatible. The test will set off a loud siren-like alert for roughly 10 seconds, even if your device is on silent or do not disturb.

To make sure your device stays silent, follow this guide ⬇️
galopuk.bsky.social
If you have a secret or hidden phone, the government's Emergency Alerts could reveal your device, even if it's on silent or do not disturb.

The government is testing emergency alerts on Sunday 7 September. If you're worried this could reveal a phone, you can follow this guide to turn off the alerts
How to keep your phone safe from Emergency Alerts. Steps to secure your iPhone
1. Search your settings for 'emergency alerts'
2. Turn off 'Severe alerts' and 'Emergency alerts'
3. If this does not work, contact your device manufacturer. Steps to secure your Android:
1. Search your settings 'emergency alerts'
2. Turn off 'Severe alerts' and 'Emergency alerts'
3. On Huawei devices running EMUI 11 or older, search your settings for ‘emergency alerts’ and turn off 'Extreme threats', 'Severe threats', and 'Show amber alerts'
4. If this does not work, contact your device manufacturer. Other mobile phones and tablets:
Depending on your software version or phone manufacturer, emergency alert settings may be called different names. They could be called 'wireless emergency alerts' or 'emergency broadcasts'.

You can usually find these settings in one of the following ways.
- Go to 'message', then 'message settings', then 'wireless emergency alerts', then 'alert'
- Go to ‘settings’, then ‘sounds’, then ‘advanced’, then ‘emergency broadcasts’
- Go to ‘settings’, then ‘general settings’, then ‘emergency alerts’
Then turn off ‘severe alerts’, ‘extreme alerts’ and ‘test alerts’.

THE HALF MAN (kindle or paperback)
"a gloriously OTT occult comedy-thriller that has echoes of films like 'The Old Dark House'. Bloody entertaining fun."
"Great fun - a mix of Dennis Wheatley and Sam Raimi"
"it’s an absolute ‘blast’!"

I just want a sci-fi show where every week, a dapper dressed witty couple wander into an apparently deserted idyllic country village, that soon starts to fill with eccentric character actors being hunted by robot postmen working for evil scientists in a secret enemy base under the local church.

We have taken the decision to leave X. The platform’s current state no longer aligns with our values, nor our mission to fight inequality.

We will now be sharing our story here, as well as on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. We hope you'll join us in our fight against poverty.

Listening to the latest @mikemuncer.bsky.social and Stacy twin peaks podcast and recalling the Bob blob pinball incident 1st time round vs now. Then: somehow, it was dramatic and manic in a good way. Now: the stupidest thing I've seen on TV, and I love Twin Peaks. open.spotify.com/episode/1jHE...

I will soon have a new comic to sell on my shop, this is an old project with my friend Lola Félin (those pictures are a preview of the intro she drew for the comic) as a writer.

As an antidote to low mood, you can do worse than read Rumpole in the cosy confines of a rain thrashed conservatory.
