shoutout to the creator of github.com/vaaleyard/tm...

the default tmux status bar is hideous... like why is it showing me the time, lol.

but this plugin makes it minimalistic and actually look good while still doing all the things you need it to actually do.

so i'm going through the react docs for the latest react 19 features... it's awful. (not the docs, the docs are good)

basically a laundry list of caveats, pitfalls, and IOUs. i honestly don't know how anyone could read these and think "i should be using this"

types still exist even if you write javascript instead of typescript, they're just in your head (hopefully) instead of on disk.

this is more relevant now than ever because types are some of the most important context you can give AI when writing code.

please do not use llms to actually write your blogs.

we can absolutely tell.

and it means:

1. I don't trust what you're saying (or at least I don't trust any purported 'insight')

2. I don't feel like I'm listening to you (normally I _like_ listening to nuance)

i've always been a fan of and pushed for keyboard accessibility. but for the first time i have just downloaded autohotkey and started making some scripts...

i am once again asking everyone to prioritize keyboard accessibility.

If you understand what software engineering as a career actually entails (lots of people and organizational problems, understanding legacy code and tradeoffs) you are at a career advantage over those who understand the job as just producing code.

Those jobs could be replaced. But that ain’t the job

great article.

many years ago i invited two women coworkers to a frontend conference since they had never been. i attended with them until we sat for lunch.

unbeknownst to us the room was for a women-in-tech event and i was forcefully asked to leave while my coworkers were told to stay...
I have been back and forth over the span of 5 years about whether to publish this article.

All opinions and experiences in this post are my own, or from people I personally know, backed up with recent reports and statistics.
Why Women in Tech isn't enough
Women in Tech spaces help, but fall short in the long run. Real progress needs systemic change and active involvement from men in positions of power.

watched howl‘s moving castle with the fam last night, i had never seen it.

i liked the themes around her trying to improve the situation around herself even with a global backdrop of chaos. also seeing the good in everyone, even those who caused her harm. and of course, improving one’s own mindset.

unpopular opinion: interviews are not meant to be a place where you demonstrate that you know everything. they're to demonstrate that you can go into situations not knowing everything but still achieve successful outcomes through applying yourself.
