Just a few hours ago, my karaoke performance of REM's "End of the World as We Know It" earned me the prestigious "Golden Microphone" trophy at an annual party we attend. Honestly, it might be one of the greatest awards I've ever received.

It's a nice night for a musical murder mystery!

Picked up plenty of fun stuff at last weekend's Nightmare Expo, including this cross-stitch of a question I've asked with increasing frequency lately. It sits in a place of honor near my desk gnome.

Tried a beer from Transylvania last night. It was good. Cautiously stepped into the sunlight this morning. No changes observed. I am obviously now a daywalker, like Blade. Looking for recommendations for techno beats & leather dusters.

When Krampus in the Corner gets packed away, the holiday season has truly come to an end in our house.

Made our annual trip to Schuyler Mansion tonight for Twelfth Night. Ate a cornucopia of 18th century treats (spice cookies & gingerbread!), drank some mulled wine, and listened to delightful chamber music in the house where Alexander Hamilton married Elizabeth Schuyler.

It's been more than a week after I found these in my Christmas stocking, and I'm still trying to figure out why Santa Claus hates me so much.

30yrs ago today, the greatest comic strip ever created ended its 10yr run in the most perfect way. Over the holiday week, I finally visited the Fenimore Art Museum to view the Calvin & Hobbes exhibit. "Let's go exploring," indeed.

Didn't bother with day-by-day photos of this year's Lego Star Wars calendar, which ended up being one of the most disappointing Lego calendars we've ever had.

Highlights: A Jawa in a festive sweater, Babu Frik, and a cool probe droid.

Low points: The 21 other days.

I still love Lego, but still...

The gift shop at the Titanic exhibit in Schenectady is a trip. Yes, that's a commemorative rubber duck, a bath toy, an ice mold (for making both Titanic-shaped ice AND miniature icebergs), and adorable Titanic-themed kids' apparel, among other items.

More in thread...

It's a weird Capital Region flex, but w/ Saturday's Times Union byline, I was informed that I'm probably one of the few local journalists to have had front-page stories for The Times Union, The Daily Gazette & Metroland at various points. That's basically the Capital Region NY newspaper trifecta.

Some absolutely gorgeous murals in the photo gallery attached to this article. This is one of my favorites, by Julia Rodriquez. It's located in Canajoharie, NY. Check out the article at the link below. www.timesunion.com/art/article/...
