You need a surgeon ring-side to put a hole in the skull to relieve the blood pressure from bleeds on the brain. Yes, it would have been graphic, blood at arterial pressure would go a long way. spray the crowd. But the health of those two boxers would have been, in the long term, immeasurably better.

She was to comment regarding the two boxers you mention that the ringside treatment was always bound to fail. Essentially you did not need an anaethesist by the ring (if your brain is no longer telling you to breath, there is no point having a pro putting a pipe into your lungs)

A thought about the two grievous brain injuries you mention in the article. My great aunt, the neuropathologist Helen Christina Grant (Wendy to all) was an expert on boxing and had conducted autopsies etc on boxers. Called in by the IOC to write a report on boxing for them.
