Das Bild zeigt eine weite, ländliche Landschaftsszene in den frühen Morgenstunden durch eine intensive Lichtstimmung und Nebelschwaden.
Der Himmel ist das auffälligste Element und weist einen spektakulären Farbverlauf auf: von einem kühlen, hellen Violett am oberen Rand geht er über in leuchtendes Rosa und Orangerot in der Mitte und endet in einem hellen Goldgelb über dem Horizont. Zarte, langgezogene Wolkenstreifen durchziehen den farbigen Himmel.
Die Vordergrundlandschaft besteht aus weitläufigen, dunklen Feldern, die von einem flachen, geheimnisvollen Bodennebel oder Dunst durchzogen sind. Dieser Nebel liegt in Streifen über den Wiesen und Feldern, wodurch die Szene eine fast ätherische Tiefe erhält.
