This week, we’re at the Labour Party Conference.

As part of a coalition of specialist organisations, we’re calling on the government to make ending VAWG a political priority - not just for some, but for all. 1/2 #VAWGTakeover

Last night at Labour Party Conference, we co-hosted a roundtable with @lawrsuk.bsky.social and @4refugeewomen.bsky.social.

We highlighted the barriers Black, minoritised, and migrant women face in accessing safety and support - and called for urgent reform.

Here’s a look back 👇

Yesterday at #LabourPartyConference, we co-hosted a roundtable with @lawrsuk.bsky.social and @sbsisters.bsky.social as part of the #VAWGTakeover.

The roundtable explored the vital question of where the black, minoritised and migrant women are in the Government's VAWG mission.

Halving VAWG requires centring those most marginalised. Migrant women’s safety must come before immigration enforcement. This is the moment to deliver change that protects all women & girls. #StepUpMigrantWomen #EndVAWG #LabourPartyConference #VAWGTakeover

Too often, immigration control is prioritised over safety. Without a firewall, abusers weaponise women’s status – 60% of migrant women report being threatened with deportation if they sought help. This must end. #StepUpMigrantWomen #LabourPartyConference

Thanks NASUWT for inviting our Legal Officer Laura Bolam to speak at your Women’s Conference on 27th Sept 2025.

It was a pleasure to attend and deliver two workshops on ‘Know Your Rights: Sexual Harassment at Work’ providing guidance on the law and practical advice.

Today on #NationalDayOfRemembrance we are remembering victims of fatal domestic abuse, including those who die by suicide.
Domestic abuse significantly increases suicide risk.

More Black & minoritised women take their own lives following abuse than are killed by a perpetrator. Yet their suicides remain largely invisible in data, policy & services. Structural inequalities - racism, immigration restrictions, lack of specialist ‘by and for’ support - trap women in danger.

Warning signs are too often minimised by agencies. Missed chances to protect mean preventable deaths. In one case study, a woman suffered 19 years of abuse. 4 recorded overdoses. Distress dismissed as “family tensions.”
Nine months after disclosing assault & suicidal thoughts, she died by suicide.

❌ Her story is a reminder: specialist services are a matter of life or death. Imkaan continues to call for action:
⚫ Recognise suicide as a VAWG issue
⚫ Track suicides linked to abuse, incl. ethnicity data
⚫ Ensure intersectional & trauma-informed post-death investigations
⚫ Invest in specialist ‘by and for’ services

Today, the Employment Rights Bill returns to the Commons.
Together with leading women's organisations, we have written to Minister Peter Kyle urging him to resist amendments to water down the legislation. Delivering the bill in full as promised is key to advancing gender equality.
Ministers warned watering down workers bill would threaten plans to close pay gap
Exclusive: Ministers have been warned the Employment Rights Bill is a ‘once-in-a-generation chance’ to close the gender pay gap as the Commons gears up to consider amendments

A new report exposes backlogs in the Family Court.

“Family courts exist to safeguard children and protect survivors of domestic abuse, yet the reality of a crumbling system leaves many facing uncertainty, hardship, and ongoing harm."

The NDA amendment (Clause 22A) in the #EmploymentRightsBill is at risk of being weakened after the Cabinet reshuffle.

We cannot go back to a UK where victims of harassment + discrimination are silenced by NDAs.

✍️ Write to your MP. Tell them: this amendment is non-negotiable.

The government was elected on a mandate to halve VAWG.

Over a year into its term, we are yet to see its strategy.

60+ organisations set out what this must include if we are to achieve this ambition.

We’re calling for legislative reform:
❌ End the presumption of parental involvement
✅ Introduce a presumption that involvement with an abusive parent is harmful
❌ Ban removal from a safe parent solely to repair contact
