I'm a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park and a retired sociology professor who's eager to build a better world. ("Scarce" like money: does not rhyme with "farce," although sometimes....)

Encouraging undergraduates to *start* with AI, robs them of the skills they need to begin learning how to be a history detective. And when you move up to the graduate level, AI doesn't have access to actual archives. And it cannot produce new knowledge. *YOU* have to do that.

Thank you.

The publisher of one of my books pestered me for MONTHS to allow them to sign it over to whatever AI shitshop might want to purchase the rights. I never responded. Legally or not, they're not getting my pitiful little IP--in this case, emphasis on the P, goddammit!

I completely agree. Yesterday was my final one as a professor, and as I headed out the door I told my colleagues that I'm getting out at the right time. In AI y'all got a real mess to contend with just on the research and scholarship front. As for policing students' work.... #EndAI

“NPR identified more than a dozen files released by the DOJ on Friday that are no longer available Saturday afternoon, including one that shows President Trump's photo on a desk among several other photographs.“
The FBI put a thousand agents (their own words) on trying to hide all the links between Trump and Epstein. They failed. When people found some additional photos of Trump in the release, the DOJ promptly DELETED THEM FROM THE DOCUMENT RELEASE.

Available to download Friday, some Epstein files no longer there Saturday afternoon
An NPR analysis of the Epstein files shows some documents, originally available on Friday, are no longer on the Department of Justice's "Epstein Library" website as the DOJ releases more files.

Frightening stuff on so many levels. And ethically what do you as an editor do regarding the author's submission? Reject it, sure, but report the author to their chair? And/or to some other body? Is there any guidance out there for such a situation. Damn AI!

This Yank could not fathom half of your allusions, metaphors, and similes, but brilliantly written as usual and I'll do the background research after we crush them this morning (my time). And, there: I embrace your hatred. Howay the Lads!

The odds are sooooooo long. It was my district until the latest redistricting, and it is perfectly carved-out for a republicant. I don't think even the blue tidal wave next November will swing it. But please, prove me wrong way-Upstaters!
