Encouraging undergraduates to *start* with AI, robs them of the skills they need to begin learning how to be a history detective. And when you move up to the graduate level, AI doesn't have access to actual archives. And it cannot produce new knowledge. *YOU* have to do that.

Illinois created civil rights tool HB 1312, allows residents to sue ICE agents who violate constitutional limits and for unlawful arrests within 1000' courthouse protection zones. Contact your state AG now and demand they adopt policies modeled on Illinois HB 1312.

Illinois Just Made It Legal To Sue ICE Agents For $10,000 Per Unlawful Arrest
Free states once defied the Fugitive Slave Act by blocking federal overreach. California and Illinois now revive that resistance through modern civil rights law.

“NPR identified more than a dozen files released by the DOJ on Friday that are no longer available Saturday afternoon, including one that shows President Trump's photo on a desk among several other photographs.“
The FBI put a thousand agents (their own words) on trying to hide all the links between Trump and Epstein. They failed. When people found some additional photos of Trump in the release, the DOJ promptly DELETED THEM FROM THE DOCUMENT RELEASE.

Available to download Friday, some Epstein files no longer there Saturday afternoon
An NPR analysis of the Epstein files shows some documents, originally available on Friday, are no longer on the Department of Justice's "Epstein Library" website as the DOJ releases more files.

U.S. plans to stop recommending most childhood vaccines, defer to doctors
The plan, which is not finalized, suggests children get fewer shots and shifts to a model telling parents to consult doctors to make their own vaccine choices.

If China can do it so can we. China is crushing this market right now and the fossil fuel industry here in the USA has bought the Trump Presidency to make sure we are left out.
New paper:

China's current rate of Wind-Water-Solar (WWS) installations puts it on a trajectory to transition to 100% WWS across all energy sectors by 2051

US & India won't get there until past 2130

awful. this is a policy choice, to kill people.
FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.

It's clear that the system is breaking down. Many of these are preventable deaths.
In the 90 minutes since I posted this, I've gotten two more death notifications.

ICE has a responsibility to take care of these people, something they are clearly disregarding. This is beyond horrifying. We must ensure dignity and humanity for detained people in this country.

This is extraordinary, heartbreaking, and a red alert warning sign for our democracy.

These people are about to be federal judges, and they refuse to answer whether the U.S. Capitol was attacked on January 6.

They say they can't comment because it's "a political controversy".
Sen. BLUMENTHAL: Was the U.S. Capitol attacked on January 6, 2021?

Trump nominee: *dodges*

Trump nominee: Well, individuals entered the Capitol.

Disgusting. At both the high school and university level, sports funding is a drain on the core mission of educational institutions. There is no way to rationalize its damage to teaching, learning, and research. None.
All the centers they’re cutting add up to less than $7 million in spending.

UNC athletics budget is $185.4 million for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
What a time to decide to learn less about the world.

Or rather, all too believable. If you want to suppress all knowledge of how a relatively small number are enriching themselves by destroying our shared home then this destruction, following on the heels of the funding freeze for the national Climate Adaptation Science Centers, is completely logical.
Trump officials shut off funding for climate adaptation centers
A third of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Climate Adaptation Science Centers are expected to drastically wind down and possibly close after Sept. 30.
