The Frog 🐸 of the Week is the Mindanao Fanged Frog (Limnonectes magnus) from the Philippines. The frog doesn't have true fangs / teeth but bony projects that come out of the bottom jaw that is used to hold in prey.

Max size 90 mm (3.5"). Females tend to be larger than males.

Found in China, Laos and Vietnam.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

🐸Granular poison frog (Oophaga granulifera).

Max. size 20 mm (0.8").

Oophaga means 'egg eater'. The female deposits unfertilized eggs for the tadpoles to eat in their tiny temporary bodies of water.

Found in Costa Rica and Panama.

Considered Vulnerable by the IUCN.

Our friend the Spiny Slender Toad is a stream toad who lives throughout much of Borneo! They are in genus Ansonia, also known as Stream Toads, because they spawn in fast moving streams and have tadpoles adapted to life in fast-moving water! (photo by Carey Knox Southern Scales)

Max size for males 85 mm (3.3"), for females 110 mm (4.3").

Found in most of eastern Canada and eastern USA except for Florida.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

Max. size for males 43 mm (1.7"), for females 50 mm (2").

Found in most of mainland Europe as far north as Denmark and southern Sweden as well as in the east to western Ukraine.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

After several failed attempts, we finally found a Turtle Frog (Myobatrachus gouldii). Endemic to SW Australia, they only emerge a few nights a year to find mates.
