Son has just got out of bath and parked himself up in front of the log burner. There's something really primeval that automatically draws us to fire, even when we have satellites and spaceships and touchscreens.

Baldrick: But this is a sort of a war, isn’t it, sir?

Edmund: Yes, that’s right. You see, there was a tiny flaw in the plan.

George: What was that, sir?

Edmund: It was bollocks.

This is actually @joeelliott00.bsky.social ...? Like, the person I saw singing at the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago?

WTAF Microsoft? Your Wordament game lists "belive" as a rare word (so rare it doesn't exist), but when I suggest "adrenalize" (admittedly the name of a Def Leppard album, but also in the OED) it refuses it.

So according to Netflix the main points of note for the original Scream are: violence and injury detail.

Scream.

One of the funniest but also most graphically violent films I've ever seen. I don't think violence and injury detail really do it justice.

Don't the people who buy bigger and tougher 4x4s/Jeeps/SUVs realise that this "I can inflict more damage on you than you can on me" line of thinking is the same mentality that led to the nuclear arms race?

Just remembered something rather touching about "Asterix in Belgium". Goscinny died halfway through work on it, so for the rest of the book, to mark the exact point of his passing, Uderzo has drawn either rain, or darkened, lowering skies into pretty much every panel.

Wow. Think I've just found the most snake oil-worthy snake oil of all snake oil.

A very big, noisy security company offers "insights" into global breaches drawn from its internal team of experts. These insights? Bullet points drawn largely from victim vendors own analysis, NCSC and so on.

Well, yeah. I’m thinking there were a few intelligence failures and devastating hubris on the part of everyone early in the conflict, but backs against the wall, the allies prospered. Ah, well…eighty years is a good run in the modern world.
