Every year now, when I go to Thorndon Fair, I have eerie flashbacks to walking up Tinakori Rd. during the lockdown and feeling like I was in zombie movie. I much prefer the populated version, even if the Covid denialism makes me wince. #street #wellington #AoNZ #photography

a very high contrast black and white shot of the view from an apartment widow which encompasses lots of other seemingly empty windows in similar, surrounding buildings. the impulse to take the shot, and in high contrast monochrome, was partly because it seemed so congruent with the Beatles song, Eleanor Rigby, which happened to be playing in my headphones at the time.

photograph from underneath of the rusted-out end of an industrial roller door and the drive gear. once a cheerful green, everything has faded and pitted, testimony to decades of neglect. photograph of an old metal roller door, industrial garage sized but now rusted in place over what has been reframed to hold a single door for people bracketed by two large windows. the original green paint of the door is pitted with rust but still almost a bright spot against the prison-gray paint of the concrete walls. wellington, AoNZ photograph of drive gear and motor that once controlled an industrial metal roller door over what was possibly a vehicle entrance. the drive belt is still in surprisingly good shape, but the door and gear assembly are extensively rusted; unlikely that door has moved in decades.

photograph of a doorway/doors on a commercial, industrial building in Wellington. the outer walls are a generic, light gray, the doors are recessed through a cut-away about 1.5m in from the wall edge. the archway thus formed is painted sort of a burnt orange colour. what's interesting, is that the archway is an irregular rectangle; the roof slopes down to the right, and the right (as you face it) side of the arch slopes out to be half a metre wider at the base than the top. the doorway was cut to the same angles, so the doors themselves, wood-framed glass in 3 panels, aren necessarily bespoke, irregular jobbies, too. why? it's an industrial building, and this door faces into an alley, as revealed by the exhaust units of the cross-alley building reflected in the custom glass.
