Turn our focus, Lord Jesus,
onto the treasures of your kingdom,
to love, mercy, peace, justice;
to the life we are offered
in following you.
Let our hearts be set
not on outward image,
for all that glistens is not gold.
Heal us within,
that we may shine your light.

O Lord, you who are the God-Come-Near, have mercy upon my restless need to distract myself today and meet me in the darkness of my small despairs, so that I might wait expectantly for you throughout the hours of this day. Amen.

TOM COTTON: The premise of your question is not well-founded
BERMAN: The answer is no. It would not be legal to kill them.

You sow into our lives, Lord,
the seeds of your kingdom,
of your love,
that we may bear
the good fruit of your grace.
Although we allow other seeds
also to take root within us
and bear their own fruit,
sift from us that
which is not of you;
fill us with your peace.

Paradise, or as Isaiah calls it, "Mountain of the Lord" is described using the analogy of rich food and drink. It is meant to create in us a desire for Paradise. In the gospel, Jesus fullfills Isaiah's prophecy. Advent invites us to look forward to the same.
