I used to know a criminologist, and one thing he noted was that the idea that everyone knew all the most infamous serial killers or extreme criminals before the 1980s is incorrect as most outlets wouldn't cover them, and cases like Gein were regional matters rather than national headlines.

I've been told by friends of Tobe Hooper that the Gein influence on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was a similar later invention.

There's something inordinately depressing about the quality of some writers for major publications these days, and their lack of intellectual curiosity. Just read a piece at the Guardian of all places on method acting and I'm fairly sure the author thinks Stella Adler is a Belgian beer.

One thing that drives me bonkers is all the people who attempt film analysis of "you all say you want original films and here's an original film you all didn't go see."

That's not enough. It also has to be an original film that inspires people to leave their homes and open their wallets.

He was right: models have outperformed radiologists on benchmarks for ~a decade.

Yet radiology jobs are at record highs, with an average salary of $520k.
