Yup! It makes staying on track so much easier! And it keeps conversations focused, so respectful of your time and theirs.

Congrats! You’re gonna do GREAT! 😊 Number 1 for me is figuring out effective communication formats that work for BOTH of you (email, 1-on-1’s, written reports, etc). Then apply them regularly. For me, I like weekly 1-on-1’s and ask for some document, their choice on format.

This work was spearheaded by Masataka Suzawa in my (NIAMS) and Chen Qiu in Traci Hall’s lab (NIEHS IRP) and initiated together with Masashi Yamaji’s group at Cincinnati Children’s. Wonderful collaboration with @eugenevalkov.bsky.social and Vittorio Sartorelli.

Delighted to share the story of two germline RBPs - one with little (DND1) and one with no (NANOS3) intrinsic sequence-specificity - that together build a continuous RNA binding surface recognizing a 7-mer (AUGAAUU) in target mRNA 3’UTRs, leading to deadenylation.

Everyone should read this. The take home: we will be less heathy if we cut NIH funding.
jeremymberg.bsky.social
This paper does a great job with a "It's a Wonderful Life" scenario about NIH, supposing the consequences of the bottom 40% of the funding NIH grants never existed.

tl:dr The world would lose a lot, but directly and indirectly
What if NIH had been 40% smaller?

A good report, but I worry too late.

The @NYTimes has done a fantastic job on explaining what the Trump administration’s savage
cuts to biomedical research mean: cures that won’t happen. Please share this widely. This is a catastrophe. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/24/o...

Peer Review--2025 Version

It's been a minute...life has been busy.

Last time, we went through the Peer Review Process as it was before January 2025.

Let's look at what has happened since the inauguration.

🧪 THIS.
JB being schooled on what clinical trials have been canceled. This clip is worth listening to.

A clinical trial is a huge undertaking, a multi year commitment.

Ending a $5 million research study when it is 80% complete does not save $1 million it wastes $4 million.
hypoautonomic.bsky.social
JB cannot say how many clinical trials have been ruined.

FYI: You cannot just stop and start experiments.

@aoc.bsky.social THIS! It isn’t just vaccines, but our entire medical future (treatments AND preventions) he is endangering. Ask him how he, a self-proclaimed non-expert, is going to improve upon a system widely considered to be the very best.

I urge everyone to read Unbreaking’s new page on everything the govt is doing to destroy & diminish medical research funding.

It’s the best thing I’ve read on this topic: @lizneeley.bsky.social & co have such done an incredible job.

On Friday, my son stayed home from school because he had a sore throat and wasn’t feeling well. He went with my husband to his office for the morning while I handled our daughter. When he came back at lunch, he was not interested in eating, saying his throat hurt too much. 1/n

ACTION ITEM-----ACTION ITEM

Implementation of Schedule F

This is what a lot of us have been worried about.

This allows for many civil service positions to replaced with political appointees. This could include NIH institute directors and even POs.

BUT THERE IS A COMMENT PERIOD...
