Hi Bluesky! I guess it's #introduction time!

🎓 I'm Mikkel, I'm a PhD student at University of Sussex dabbling at the intersections between computational ethology, #neuroethology and behavioural ecology.

Breaking News: Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most revered conservationists, died at 91. Her discoveries in the 1960s about how chimpanzees behaved in the wild broke new ground and represented what was called “one of the Western world’s great scientific achievements.” nyti.ms/42kpGxt

I’m super excited to finally put my recent work with @behrenstimb.bsky.social on bioRxiv, where we develop a new mechanistic theory of how PFC structures adaptive behaviour using attractor dynamics in space and time!

👁️The retina — strikingly conserved across vertebrates, but an oddity among bilaterians!

So how did it evolve?

With @mikebok.bsky.social, @neurofishh.bsky.social and @denilsson.bsky.social, we argue that retinal complexity may 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑦𝑒 𝑖𝑡𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓.

This should have been big news!

Ten funding agencies from eight European countries have pledged to support a public infrastructure that is poised to replace academic journals:

RCN 🇳🇴
Forte 🇸🇪
ARIS 🇸🇮
SRC 🇸🇪
FCT 🇵🇹
CSIC 🇪🇸
DFG 🇩🇪
Formas 🇸🇪
ANR 🇫🇷
Only two of them issued press releases in […]

Might be something I need to have a closer look at for a current project which currently uses {reactable} and {crosstalk}. Have you seen any examples of styling a table as a car view by any chance?👀

For now just on the data structure in the 2/3 and 3/3 subskeets. 😊 If you have a fellowship in mind, then feedback on the form would also be helpful: opnform.com/forms/eu-fel...

Love that you’ve included that detail!

Turned out that Nature solved the problem with hardware rather than software!
roald-arboel.com
Funny you should mention it: It was my PhD supervisor’s PhD supervisor Malcolm Burrows who discovered these “cogs” - it solved a conundrum in both biomechanics and neuroscience: Neural coordination, even with its millisecond precision, would be way too inaccurate and the jumps wouldn’t work!

I guess I’m just speculating about whether the tech is there so it’d be possible to avoid taking a sample. The difference is likely tiny, but, especially in the times, I’d rather not leave the door open for “but what if the sample was different”-arguments that I’d attempted to twist the facts.

This looks great, thanks for sharing! Seems to be an abandoned project - maybe worthy of a fork to add a density plot 👀 (argh, must resist another project!😅)

Ping @gmcd.bsky.social just because I know you dabble so much with duckdb. 🤞

#rstats folks, is anyone aware of whether it is possible to plot data loaded with @duckdb.org - say I want to generate a density plot on a data set that's too large for in-memory?

Could someone try to submit a fellowship to the #EU #Fellowship Database - and give some feedback on the form: Is everything clear? Have I missed anything? Feel free to just try it out with a fictive fellowship (please label the title as "FICTIVE").

Inspired by @deniswirtz.bsky.social and team, I'm collating a database of #PhD and #postdoc fellowships in the #EU. I'm standardising the information an entry needs, making it easier to (1) search and (2) contribute - and I would appreciate input, especially from other #ECR! Please share!
