Here's my little guy with new crouching animation. Discovered a bug where he can jump into a short space and he goes bonkers.

Look at those covers and those screenshots. Dunno: I never felt betrayed by the illustrations not matching the screenshots and I never felt like they needed to match.

There's a 1991 SSI catalogue inside our copy, and it's an interesting look into this transitional period for them. There's still some life in the ageing 'Gold Box' engine, but Eye of the Beholder is the new shiny new hotness.
"Break through to new levels of computer role-playing.!" An eye of the Beholder cover art skeleton looms menacingly on the cover of this catalogue, with several other AD&D and Buck Rogers game boxes around it. Eye of the Beholder gets a full page feature with box art, screenies, and descriptive and promo text, and so does Buck Rogers, Countdown to Doomsday. Pools of Radiance, the OG Gold Box AD&D RPG gets plenty of love in this brochure and still on sale, and the first Dragonlance RPG under the Gold Box releases, Champions of Krynn, is also promoed. Dragonstrike! The first-person dragon flight combat simulator from Westwood Studios.

Four adventurers descend to unknown depths,
With sword and spell and measured, cautious steps.
From Waterdeep, a call they did not ignore,
To find the vanished Xanathar once more. 🎶🎻

The first dungeon crawler I ever played. 💜

pitfall!, game of the month, electronic fun with computers & games, magazine (1983) archive.org/details/elec...
a mockup illustration made to look like a screen from pitfall! with the protagonist using a rope to swing over a pool full of alligators. a snake is on the left as is a ladder leading down into a cavern. a scorpion is down in the cavern. on the right is a bar of gold(?). background is green and trees. score and time are shown in the upper left hand corner. upper right hand corner had some diagonal white text that says:
pitfall! game of the month
activion's jungle adventure game combines superb color graphics and excellent game play.

Aaaah! The controls on this game were so difficult on the c64. I loved the cover art and the pixel art on the PC did it justice. You can see more screenshots here: www.myabandonware.com/game/dragons...
