My understanding is that once the results are certified, the Speaker's approval isn't needed, and she can be sworn in by a judge.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

I co-wrote Trump’s first anti-terrorism plan in 2017-18. He’s not trying to stop “left-wing” terrorism. He is staging it.

His troop deployments are a false flag — meant to provoke a response in order to justify harsh crackdowns.

This is now very obvious.

My aunt, one year older than Anne Frank, was born into a secular Jewish family in Germany and emigrated to Amsterdam with my grandparents and my father. The U.S. government deemed my grandfather worthy of immigration to the U.S. in 1936. My aunt died last year.

Today marks the two-year anniversary of the horrific October 7 attack.

As we mourn the 1,218 lives lost that day, let us also keep alive the dream of a lasting peace and a better future for all.

Ceasefire now. Every hostage must come home. And a safer world for everyone.

@sarahmackattack.bsky.social Embarrassed to admit that I had never texted *anyone* for a squid fact. I have remedied that omission.

We just need a manager who would've said the right things to Harper and Casty to make them hit doubles in clutch spots, and to Strahm and Kerkering to not leave pitches out over the plate. Pretty sure most of the fans are sure they can do that.

It's get to the playoffs and then be hot or lucky or both. Still time for the Phils to get hot or lucky.

A year ago, both Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly and his top military advisor Mark Milley warned America that Trump was a “fascist.”

As Milley said:

“He is the most dangerous person ever…he's a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person to this country.”

Stephen Miller has been waging a campaign of stochastic terrorism against judges. This attack sent three members of a judge’s family to the hospital.

Over the weekend, Trump's deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller repeatedly attacked judges, calling them part of an "organized terrorist attack" on the US government....

On Saturday, the home of a judge who ruled against Trump, went up in flames

Thanks for this! Dilworth, and his predecessor as mayor, Clark (the first mayor under the City Charter) were highly regarded by my pro-good government parents. Unfortunately, the Charter's resign to run provision got us Tate for more than 2 terms.

The new Supreme Court term starts today, meaning that -- in a novel twist -- the justices will hear oral arguments in some cases before they issue rulings that actually explain what they are doing.

If the judge reminds counsel that they are an officer of the court, and uses the word circumvention in reference to their client's conduct, argument is not going well, to say the least.

I was a skeptic about the import of the Epstein files.

But 3 invasions of cities, one military buildup outside Venezuela, a government shutdown, and so many other things meant to distract have me convinced whatever’s in there is the biggest presidential scandal in U.S. history.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

Really? I'd think even random strangers would be happy to have you pick out restaurants and recommended dishes for them.

Jesus Christ. DHS has held this guy in the hospital handcuffed to a bed and under constant guard for over a MONTH without ANY warrant or even ANY steps taken towards putting him into the removal system!
Petitioner’s counsel has requested documentation of a judicial warrant for his arrest, any charging documents, or other authority supporting his detention. See Santiago Decl. ¶¶ 18–20. ICE has provided no response. Id. To date, ICE has not placed Petitioner in removal proceedings, charged him with violating immigration law, set bond, issued a Notice to Appear, or otherwise processed him. See Pet. ¶¶ 16, 49. In Respondent’s Opposition brief, the government states “ICE intends to take further action consistent with the laws prescribed under the Immigration and Nationality Act (“INA”) once Petitioner is released from medical care and it can conduct the examination as [prescribed] in 8 C.F.R § 287.3.” Opp. at 4. Neither Petitioner nor Respondents have provided the Court with information about Petitioner’s citizenship, whether he has violated any law or regulation, or any information that would suggest that Petitioner is a flight risk.

Just found a spot and parked my car a couple blocks from home when Kiki came up. As I'm walking along I hear "Shit!" from one house and "Crap!" from another. October baseball on a warm evening in Philly.

Someone should write a spy novel about the fact--not even an exaggeration--that all you need to take out key NatSec officials in the US is to bribe one of 3 different rabid Xitter trolls to lie about them on Xitter.
