I wonder just how far this overt hostility to public health goes before visa-free travel for US citizens becomes a real liability for countries that currently offer it.

This press conference is the most unhinged, downright bizarre thing I've ever seen from an American president talking about science. Like...way weirder than bleach and COVID-19.

Cute cat, right? Well ...this was immediately after he brought a LIVE PILEATED WOODPECKER into our house through the catio door. I don't even know how this was possible.
Great cat laying on floor under chair with crazy eyes.

Chicago should not be a target of our own military. Thank you Governor #Pritzker for speaking out! We need lower groceries, better paying jobs, and access to healthcare- the Feds should focus on real issues. This fake crime crisis is an illegal power grab. #resist #nokings #LeeCarterforJustice

Pritzker: This is not about fighting crime. This is about the President and his complicit lackey, Stephen Miller, searching for ways to lay the groundwork to circumvent our democracy, militarize our cities, and end elections.

He doesn't even know what he's signing. That's not what the Executive Order states.

The EO is bad and should alarm "free speech warrior" types for other reasons, but "burn a flag, go to jail" is not what he signed.

If you missed it in the print edition, the piece ran with this wonderful art from George Danby
A newspaper page with an op-ed entitled "An Opera of Loons." The cartoon art featured several loons superimposed over the song "The Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera.

We must mobilize now: reach out to your representatives, share personal stories of cultural impact, and join allies in calling for full restoration of these programs. The future of global understanding and cooperation is at stake.

If we allow these cuts, we won’t just lose funding—we risk unraveling the entire foundation of international education and global exchange.

🧵22 critical U.S. educational exchange programs—totaling ~$100 million—are facing elimination from the FY 2025 budget. These programs represent over 75 years of diplomacy, mutual learning, and global connection.

Abject fucking humiliation for everyone who works at Apple. They could have merely provided a big headline of building products in the U.S., investing in manufacturing, the bullshit that would count as sufficient appeasement. But this performance? Tap dancing as they build concentration camps?

Remember that episode of the Simpsons where they narrowly avoid getting taken out by an asteroid and Moe yells, "Now let's burn down the planetarium so that this never happens again!"...

(sigh)...We're at that stage of the intellectual collapse of our society.

Historian Joseph Fronczak has described the political culture of fascism as “participatory anti-democracy.” It captures the pleasure that people like Mace take from watching people’s rights get trampled upon by the boots of her own government.

It's not about "saving money" and it never has been. The disruption, of course, is the point. These actions are designed to disrupt the institutions that present objective, evidence-based analysis in the face of an administration engaged in ideologically-motivated warfare.

The return on investment for these types of programs is typically enormous. The Maine Sea Grant (a grant that was cancelled and is being "renegotiated") generated $15 for every $1 invested. Much of it flowing to economically disadvantaged coastal communities (many of which probably swung for Trump).
