Just watching In the Mouth of Madness. Really liked it in the 90s. Surprisingly relevant now, and horrifying in a unexpectedly presiant way. Reality is not what it used to be.

I think the greatest weakness of modern conservatism is longing for the past & failure to scratch below nostalgia. Good jobs were in abundance in the 50s. Not necessarily because of any policies we abandoned. But because the rest of the world had been laid waste by war. I think few understand this.

Together, they make up “the largest white nationalist network in Canadian history,” according to @antihate.ca’s new piece.

With CAHN’s permission, I did my best to summarize their work:

On Oct. 4, 1957, the Avro Arrow was unveiled with the intention of it being the RCAF's primary interceptor in the 1960s.
Less than two years later, the program was abruptly cancelled and 14,528 Avro employees were put out of work.
This is the story of the Arrow.

Appalling news from Alberta.
Free choice reading was the backbone of education for me, and my children.
Message from an Alberta teacher:
"I've been told that kids aren't allowed to bring books from home. No free choice reading. No silent reading time or listening to reading. No library time until books are catalogued and deemed appropriate.

I know there is a lot out there competing for our attention, but this one piece by @charlieangus.substack.com.web.brid.gy has sat with me all day. Even as I (too) try to make sense of the narcissists' feud à la Musk-Trump, this is the story that has me searching for historical insight.
At Juno Beach I realized that the democratic values that I had taken for granted didn't just happen.
They were paid for at an immense cost of lives and sacrifice.
Would we be willing to pay the same sacrifice if the darkness descended again?
My reflection on June 6.
